Timeout after disconnection

Can somoone explain to me why in 10 min chess, the timeout in case of a disconnection is already after 1 minute? this makes 0 sense to me. i've already lost countless games because of this eventhough after reconnecting i still would have more than enough time to continue playing. i see no good reason why this exists especially in a game mode where people have 10 minutes to spare.

Sitting around waiting for people to reconnect used to be a big part of the live chess experience.

I'll bet I watched opponents disconnect and reconnect 50 times in one game. Hundreds of games, sitting around, waiting for people to rejoin. Sometimes waiting until the very end of the time control to come back.

It's not as fun on the watching side. 

@justbefair sure but the same is the case if someone just leaves without disconnection. the site doesn't know if someone has left or if the person is just thinking for a long time. in my case it just hurts when i lose connection in a winning game and i manage to reconnect after maybe 90 s and i already lost. in a game mode where there is so much time anyways. and i can't really fix that, i live in a remote place and my internet sometimes has those little disconnections.
