Timeouts?

A time out occurs when you run out of time in which to make a chess move in a game.
For example.. in a 1 day game, if you don't move within your 2 hours, you run out of time .. therefore your opponent wins on time.
Known as "Timeouts".
To correct it, you have to play more games in order to lower your timeout ratio.
[without timing out ].

Thats rubbish i only lost the games on time because i had not logged on for 3 days because i had loads of schoolwork to do.

Its not rubbish, they don't want people who time out a lot in the tournies and thats understandable.

Yep, as Reb says, entering tournies requires less than 10% timeout rate which is sensible.
If you know you won't be able to log on for a while, go to your settings and choose to activate vacation time. That way you won't automatically loose on time.
Read here for a little info on it. http://support.chess.com/index.php?_m=knowledgebase&_a=viewarticle&kbarticleid=31

I didnt do it deliboratly, look at my previous high rating if you dont believe me. It was a one off.

just keep playing more games and that number will go down.
the thing is, timeouts are very frustrating for opponents. so there has to be a consequence to them. if you can't play in your games, use some VACATION time in your settings.

I know its a pain not to be able to join a tournament because of a timeout percentage. due to personal events i could not forsee i wasnt able to find time to login to play or go on vacation for a few days so i timed out on a bunch of games, and now after some time i have my timeouts back below 10%. but not being able to join a tournament was not the end of the world, i was still able to play as many games as i wanted and that is what it is all about. this site is here for the enjoyment of playing chess and just because you are not in a tournament shouldnt make the games you still get to play any less enjoyable. imho

i still dont get it, i hav 33% of timeouts and i cant get iinto tounaments, what should i do?
You need 10% or less timeouts to participate.. as has already been pointed out above by others.
In your case, because you have timed out on so many games, ye need to complete another 126 games without timing out in any of them (to lower your timeout % enough) before ye can enter a tournament..
Site info on timeouts:
Can anyone explain to me what timeouts are? apparently i've had 9. Therefore my percentage is 14% so i cant enter the second Chess tournamet 1400-1600. Basically i dont know what it is, can someone explain it to me?
