Tips for getting better

I have just began playing chess and find it extremely fun. However i'm stuck at very low ratings. This is frustrating for me as I am typically a quick learner. Does anybody have any tips to get a higher rating or just to get better at chess overall. Should I be playing longer games or blitz? Should I begin to memorize openings? How do I train? Any help is appreciated.

After each game, review your moves. Identify mistakes and missed opportunities. This self-analysis will help you learn from your games. Don't be too focused on rating initially. Enjoy the learning process and celebrate small victories. Improvement will come with time and practice.

"find it extremely fun" ++ Good.

"i'm stuck at very low ratings" ++ That is because you blunder.

"Does anybody have any tips to get a higher rating" ++ Always check your intended move is no blunder before you play it. That little mental discipline alone is enough to reach 1500.

"get better at chess overall"
++ Study Chess Fundamentals - Capablanca. In 60 pages it contains all you must know.

"longer games or blitz?" ++ 15|10 rapid.

"memorize openings?" ++ No, it is a waste of time and effort.

"How do I train?" ++ Play and analyse your lost games to learn from your mistakes.
