Tips on improving consistency

I am not very consistent when I play day to day. Some days I will play like 8 games and win like 7. Other days I will play 5 games and maybe lose them all.

I don’t ever do any form of warm up, I normally just log in and jump into a game, normally quite late at night.

Is my opponent algorithm also playing a part in this? I notice that some days it will put me against 5 players in a row and 4 of them are a bit less than my current elo. Then other days it will put me against 5 opponents right at my elo or close.

Any tips? I feel like I am inconsistent in many aspects of my life, not just chess. Must be down to mood, alertness, fatigue, and other factors.

Basic life stuff makes such a difference. Days where I've slept well and ideally done some exercise I play better. I played tired yesterday and lost 6 in a row, I didn't even feel tired but had been up with my 2 year old all night and hadn't slept much. Best thing to do is recognise when it's not your day and put it down until tomorrow. Keep a note of what you have done on days when you play good/bad and you will be able to start figuring out factors - it will probably apply to the rest of your life too, not just chess.

Hey man

Thanks that’s good advice. I do typically stop playing if I feel I’m on a losing streak or playing bad. My own worst enemy sometimes though and occasionally I continue to play out of boredom!

And yea having an organised life helps and probably more of a routine.
