Titled players on chess.com, are they for real?

Because unless grandmaster Mihai Suba suffered some kind of brain injury that affected his play (which i hope not), i cannot believe he let me beat him last night. Okay, so i won on time. But even that seems odd for a grandmaster versus a rank amateur in a 15/10 rapid game. The same goes for his ratings. He played 15000+ blitz games, only to end up with a rating of 1800+. His highest being 2100+. If this guy is a fraud i think it is disrespectfull towards the real Mihai Suba, and the profile should be taken down.

Brain injury? There's no evidence of that.  You beat him on time. He is 70 years old.  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mihai_Suba

You beat him on time, not over the board.

titled players on this site are fake. I beat many of these "titled" players in blitz games and they are not 70 or anywhere near that age.

tell me what titled player loses to real 1500 rated players? none of the real ones that I know of.

LMAO hes back!

He is 70 years old.

So what if he's 70? He is a grandmaster! Sure, playing strength will decline somewhat with age. But not to a class A/B level... Viktor Korchnoi was still kicking asses in his 80's!

You beat him on time, not over the board.

And what is that supposed to mean? I mentioned myself i beat him on time. And ofcourse i didn't beat him OTB. It's an internet game for christ sake!. And i'm not gloating or anything...

On the other hand, if it really is GM Suba...

Haha, yeah, then my post is kinda disrespectful tongue.png

Anyway, i don't mean any disrespect with my post. I just cannot believe i beat the guy, if it's really him.

I don't complain. It was an open challenge. He took me up on it himself.

And this isn't the first time. I played a candidate master on here somewhere along the line, and he was hanging stuff left and right! And it wasn't because i played so exceptionally well.

Players that have the title graphics next to their name are verified by the site, so they really are that player.

You have to send proof of your title to chess.com in order to get it associated with your profile and get the complimentary diamond membership. People who have the title shown are real. All sorts of others on the site claim to be someone. Also, people share names. I have personally played both an Alexander Ivanov and a Robert Fischer who were not the GMs.

Well, then it probably is grandmaster Mihai Suba that i played. But i just cannot believe a grandmaster's playing strength declines to the point i'm able to beat him/her in a 15/10 rapid game (on time) at age 70.

He didn't have the GM next to his name, therefore, he's just a guy saying he is Mihai Suba. That's okay, isn't it?

He does have the GM before his name. See link

YES

Keep in mind that online chess is only sort of representative of someone's skill level. Maybe he was playing with his grand-kids at the same time and was distracted. Maybe his internet connection was bad. Maybe he made a mouse slip that made his position worse. OTB chess is the only real test.

Maybe he let someone have a go against you on his account.  you could have been playing a 5 year old really surprise.png

He's 70 and a lot of people have pretty big medical expenses when they get old.  He could have verified an account and sold the log in information to a fan boy.  Of course I know a master who is now rated 1900 because he had a stroke.  You just never know!
