"Oh we do love to beleive things like "It's personality that counts really" " beauty is only skin deep" etc don't we lol !!!!!!"

Seems like most people neither like nor try to believe it actually :)

Olichris: There was someone who posted here (credit to post #43 Smile) and said something like "if he is smart, cares about me, likes me, etc... and if he just so happens to play chess, it's a nice bonus."

That's basically how I think of looks. Looks obviously give some kind of pleasant experience, as does finding out you have a common interest of chess with someone. But neither of those things really make a difference about how I assess them as a human or whether I want to be with them.

Looks on a human being is one way to satisfy my "beauty craving"; I could also look at a painting or listen to a piece of music. So if the person looks good, sure it's a nice bonus -- now I don't have to buy a painting -- but that's not really what makes me want to be with a human being over something nonliving.

It's true that there is psychology to looks. When I see a pretty girl, my first thought is wow, she's so desirable -- so I do get a first impression. But then I start to question that impression -- I question if I really have any idea who she is. She could be great, bad, or somewhere in between.
