Today I went over 1500 in live chess for the first time

And then my rating fell apart after losing 4 or 5 games straight.

ARRRRRRGGGGHHHH, need to vent, Finally I went over 1500 in standard chess, and then went straight back to 1459,

Now I've won 3 games again and am at 1481. I don't know what it is, sometimes I think wow I'm actually playing half decent chess. Only to think the next game, how the hell did I get in this position, or be surprised by some strange opening.

I guess I've maxed my rating out. Still I can compete in the high 14's and have only been playing seriously since the beginning of this year, but I want a high rating soooo bad :P

Keep up the good work!!!

trysts

It took me years to break 1500 online. Good job!

thanks guys!, to be fair, I have played some chess in my youth and a few times throughout the years, been a member here for quite some time, but started taking it seriously as a hobby since this year with the goal to beat my father and get half decent :P

this is the most beautiful day in your life !!!

Skwerly

it happens.  i once approached 2100 on another site and got so excited i blew game after game, sending me back into the late 1900s lol!  you'll get there.

Congrats on the milestone!

I find that my blitz rating can swing over 200 points in a single day in online blitz (play on ICC). I find that I am at my strongest early in the morning when I am fresh from a good rest. My weakest play is in the evenening when I am exhausted from work. Recently I have not been playing chess after work and instead using that time to do a bit of chess study instead and I found that I can hold a much much higher elo by avoiding the evening chess games.

thanks for all the feedback, made me feel a little better, I'm one win away from breaking 1500 again, played some games with silly wins and losses, but played enough for today, maybe tomorrow.

I think my current rating is where I belong though, unless I start making a lot less mistakes.

You're playing 8 to 9 games per day, at 40-50 minutes a game.

And you're surprised you lost too many?

Have you considered that your opponents are "fresher" than you, when they sat down to play?

Time to pace yourself better, and mix in some "study time," instead of just playing for 9 hours per day.

Remember to eat meals, too.  Unless, of course, you have unlimited energy.  Smile

Have you considered that your opponents might well have been "fresher" than you, when they sat down to play?

My 15|10 games hardly last 40-50 mins, I'd say more like 20-30 mins. And my most silly loss was the first game I played today :P, but maybe I do need to play less games.

Any Game in 15/10 that goes 30 moves, lasts 40 minutes.  By definition.

Every additional 30 moves adds another 10 minutes to the total time elapsed.

I keep on playing games like you. I never analyze one of my games on live chess. maybe the right thing would be to play halve the amount of games and spent some analyzing the games afterwards. I think I might find some things I do wrong and maybe improve my favorite openings.

That doesn't make sense, if both players use 10 seconds per move (for instance) than 30 x 10 x 2 = 600 seconds       600 seconds is 10 minutes.

Yes it does; Game in 15/10 = 30 minutes (total), plus every 30 moves adds 10 additional minutes to the total time for the game.

Thus a game that goes for 60 moves will use about 30 + 10 + 10 = 50 minutes, on average. I assume you are both using all your alloted time.  If not, you should be.

Breaking 1200 is my challenge. I've only been playing chess for 3 years. Everytime I get above 1200 I get knocked down to 1160 or so. It took me about 6 months to go from 900 to 1200. But I'm improving. Maybe it's time for you to start studying technique books on the middle and endgame strategies. Just my 2 cents. Congrats, Hope I get there someday.

You would use 15 mins to decide your first move, then exactly 10 s for every subsequent one?

[COMMENT DELETED]

Double post - should spend 15 mins doing it correctly...

For you, the day that those players came and knocked you out of the 1500's was the most important day of you life...but for them it was Tuesday.

With this EPIC hard fought battle where I got an obviously winning position I went over 1500 again. Lol what a disgrace. I think the guy didn't realize the ''cancel'' button changes to ''resign'' as soon as a move has been made.

So after that I played this one:

Maybe I should quit forever now at my peak

dont worry you will fall back soon
