In today's puzzle (7/10/16) it looks like white is totally screwed. The "correct" move gets rid of white's last shot at making anything happen. It's probably over my head -- thoughts ?
It's a stalemate or a dead draw
The king can't move if either piece takes, so it's a stalemate. If black doesn't take, rook and king vs rook and king is a dead draw
Thanks. I'm very much rookie and still confused though. Put the white rook right under the king, and what's preventing the black King or Queen from gobbling up the rook and the game continuing?
If the black king or queen takes the rook, the white king will have zero moves. If a side cannot make any legal moves and the king is not in check, it is a stalemate as nothing else can happen
