What are top 6 to 10 chess playing countries in the world?   (I'm writing a new book and need the info...googled it, and it took me to a thread here on chess dot com, lol, but it wasn't too helpful)   As for what I think I know:

Russia, India, Holland, USA,  what others?  Thanks.

There are certainly strong Asian players or players of Asian decent who are now citizens of the U.S. ( ex. Nakamura- I would bet Japanese ancestory). I had read some where that a chess like game if not the actual game may have had roots from China, though most of the things I read say either India or Persia.

Chess certainly appeals to the nature of Japanese in particular, but many Asian cultures also. By sheer volume of people, as well as, the names of a few titled players I have seen. I would expect China would probably be high on the list also.

China?

From a straight guess I'd say Russia, USA, China, India, UK maybe. But I see now on the list that it's not correct. :P

Actually Naka is Japanese by birth, he qualifies as American because his mother is American. Apart from him, I can't think of any strong Japanese players.

I suggest you learn how to use search engines prior to writing a book

I suggest you take a manners course before you respond online - then a reading comprehension course.  Why is it there is always some jackleg troll on great forums like this?

Because dodos like you ask tool questions.  And most folks, including, inter alia, @Nimzo, don't suffer fools gladly.

Do your navel gazing exercises at home, and don't bring them into the forums.

Pretty please.

Maybe we should do a 'amount of title players per capita' to determine once and for all :P, or is this how that list was created in the first place?

@ the OP

I want to apologize not only for the rant in your forum, but like you I am tired of condescending little schmucks here...

@ trolls

I love how some people think that others here have to obey your idiotic social rules...

What is wrong with a guy having a discussion/sharing session to save himself time or leg work, to find out some information. He might not have much in the way of free time. Not everyone is a computer savvy as others here. Some people enjoy discussing what they don't know, so they can learn or share. It isn't everone's responsibility to learn everything on their own, so they can be as cool and in the know, as you think you are.

To me it is far dumber to sit in your house, too ashamed to ask a question in humility, simply because you don't know, than to ask it while, "know it alls", think it is cool to belittle you.

You might know how to look up everything on the net, but other people who haven't spent half their lives on line like you, might be the people who work on your car, fix your cable tv, work on your plumbing, etc. Like it or not, you need these people. You should respect them because, you could find your @$$ in a real sling and one of them might catch wind of how patronizing you are and leave your @$$, high and dry.

You pencil faced geeks that don't know how to wipe your own @$$#$ don't have much right to put down other people, for what they don't know or want to talk about, you are no better. If you think you are superior, you actually aren't worthy of their company and really should leave.

If memory serves, there was a time when Iceland had more players rated over 2200 per capita than any other country.  I don'tknowif this is still the case.

No booze tonight. I don't need booze to tell people what I think. When in the hell would I want to join team Laos, I am an American... or were you trying to make a pun of the term louse?

If so, you need to rethink your jokes. I think any troll here would be more fitting to refer to as a louse. I don't fit the description. However, hanging out with Joey D'vivre will get you looked at as a louse, if that is what you are shooting for.
