=============================

Chess career Veselin Topalov virtually ended. This revealed itself 41-year-old grandmaster from Ruse in an extensive interview with the Russian agency "R-Sport". In it the former world champion even expressed the view that overall the game on a professional level has passed its zenith and sports its future is doomed to oblivion.

"Perhaps I will teach her daughter Laura to play. But I think that her generation will be the last for professional chess. After 50 years, all these machines and computers will ensure that chess will repeat the fate of Checkers - said Topalov. - But There is nothing sad. Chess will be part of education, just as a sport and art will be lost. Or they will be a timeline at most an hour and a half of the party. The classics will die. like the Rubik's cube. at first, it simply lined, then did it for speed, then with one hand and then tired of all this. and logoichno. Life is changing and occupation die. "

Topalov added that in the current economic situation chess is simply not competitive to other sports. He pointed out that even the most high-priced competitions organized by the International Federation (FIDE), can not compete with commercial leagues and chains around the world.

"The prize fund of the match for the world title in Sochi was $ 1 million. After taxes champion receives $ 600 000. But you have to become world champion! Which parent will refer your child to chess, provided that in football or tennis can get rich more and easier? After all reserves in the football championship of Spain receive such money! 26 years ago Karpov and Kasparov played out $ 3 million. nowadays this sum would amount to tens of millions, but instead now play for a million, "recalled Vesko .

For himself, he acknowledged that continues to race solely for the love of the game and, of course, for official reasons.

"No motivation to beat no longer have. During the tournament of candidates in Moscow in March I found that setting the remaining 7 players is much stronger than mine. To play well, you need to disconnect from the rest of the world. To turn approaching party in the most important event in my life. I watched others how they do it, fight, die on the board. Even Anand, who is older than me. but I could not be set up like that. Before I could, but now - no longer, "said former №1.

According to him it hasat him began to disappear somewhere in 2010 when he lost a match against Viswanathan Anand World Chess Championship in Sofia. Then Topalov had a chance to regain the crown lost in the infamous match against Vladimir Kramnik in Elista in 2006, but at 5.5: 5.5 tons. Made a loss in the last game of the match at the Central Military Club.

"The title was close at hand - remember Vesko. - To become a world champion, you have to win tournaments to win holder of the crown in a match. I got to the situation where you had to win a game. Not three or two row, but only one! I could not. then everything went down. in addition, I started a new life, got married, gave birth to my daughter. If previously trained from Monday to Saturday and died on Sunday, then I started to relax since Saturday. These are 52 training days less per year. After this match result as a priority took more back. "

Topalov also announced openly that no friends among chess players. Moreover - it turned out he had enmity not only with Kramnik.

"There are many people in the chess world with which I am in a great relationship, but friends do not. Only such tension as with Kramnik rarely feel, but there are other people who do not respect. It's just not as popular. Alexander Morozevich got some bickering, not to mention the leaders of FIDE - they are bad people, "said Topalov.

He declined to predict what will be engaged after five years: "I do not do so distant plans. Probably will deal with chess, but, frankly, lately tournaments me sick. Certainly I have no ambition for executive. Most likely I will continue to give free sessions in a simultaneous game. But to participate in the politics of chess - that to me is not serious. "

Interesting. Should end at some point I suppose.

But due to computers it will end like checkers? I'm not so sure on that. Checkers was solved. Chess is, for many practical purposes, solved already... but this doesn't seem to stop new players from picking up the game.

Although change isn't always an end. It may not be million dollar championship matches, maybe even FIDE will die, but... wait how big is the professional scene anyway? How many people make their living on chess? 50 people? 200 people? Not much of a death lol. I think the millions of amateurs will enjoy it forever... ok maybe not forever, but in 50 years I don't expect to see much change on my side of things Tongue Out

One useful metric here (for us amateurs) may be new chess books published each year and/or sales of chess books.

I haven't forgotten what Topalov and his manager did to Kramnik in 2006. Topalov can't retire soon enough to suit me.

No. It's likely chess will never be solved. Certainly not within 50 years.

Chess is different, I think. While computers can now routinely defeat Grandmasters, I don't believe chess has been solved. Meaning that computers have determined from beginning to end every possible variation and (say) white wins every time with perfect play.

No, it would be a draw really,  if white win it mean black didn't play perfectly.

Topalov should have ended that interview with the phrase:

"Hi chess players of the world! You got trolled".

He trolled the entire world of chess.

I am going to ask the adms of the Chess.com Troll University (TROLLU) to invite Topalov to join the group as a Master Troll (I think the # 1 in the world)..

Just think - our chess clubs are filled with players who could have been quarterbacks or linebackers in the NFL.  Where did we go wrong?

LOL !! they are wasted in chess.

Magnus Carlsen loves soccer, why do not he try to be like Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo? LOL

How will chess be solved by humans? Sure, computers will solve it. But how will humans memorize the billions of different combinations. Only people that use engines will "solve it".

FRENCHBASHER

ASIMO will play better tennis than humans. But tennis will still reamin popular, may be more.

today, more players in CC than before computers golden age.

tomorrow 960 will be FIDE rule, when russian school will stop lobbying.

imho of a patzer blundering playing 1450, 64 years old, losing each year 10 in average rating.Laughing

Nope! Things evolve and Chess is one of them. Fisher introduced Fisher Random. More recent is Crazyhouse and Quantum Chess. So no Chess is destined to live forever! LOL!

it will be like running, jogging, etc ...plenty of various sports, 9x9, 960; etc ...pieces will change too, elefant, etc ...

running is sport: marathon, 100m, 110 yards (totally differentLaughing, you're on the left of the track), 3000 steeple ...

In fifty years, chess will be considered "too difficult to learn" and reserved for the gifted only:

sorry, guys, to the ROOTS, I meant.

I prefer the image of chess playing in roadside cafes.  Back to the routes works for me.

The point at this level is probably that players regurgitate computer moves from memory.

how to keep professional chess alive:

Burn all the computers in the world

Interesting insights.

I agree that professional chess seems to have passed it's zenith.

BlunderLots

The whole "Chess will be solved!" argument is, to me, silly.

Because with perfect play, I'm pretty sure that chess is a draw. That's the only "solved" outcome I can see happening. Like how the King's Gambit was proven to be a draw after 3.Be2.

This means every solid opening and defense will likely end with a draw after precise engine play from both sides (which, to me, is nothing that we don't already know.)

Of course it's a draw. The pieces are the same, and black always has a response to white. The challenge is seeing which player can force things out of drawing lines to eek out a win. :D

I'm sure this article has nothing at all to do with his last tournament result.
