Topalov

Seems like a real nice guy.  He's also very good at explaining games over the display board.  It's a pity he's associated with Danailov.  He's one of the best in the world and no one ever talks about Topalov.

This thread is for you Topalov!

He didn't strike me as a nice guy when he accused Kramnik of cheating in their title match, which was absurd and childish as well as false. His behaivor in the title match vs. Anand also struck me as immature. BTW who the hell is Danailov? You shouldn't automatically assume everyone else knows what you're talking about (or who in this case).

BUT getting back to Topalov, he is a great player and I hope to eventually find the time to go over collections of games by him, Anand, Kasparov, Kramnik and other great contemporary players.

Which top player was it that said "No one ever misses Topalov." ?

@Tricklev: It was Svidler, I think.

Anand is a nice guy, Aronian is a nice guy, Kramnik is quite OK. Topalov? He is far, far away from being a "nice guy." He is one of the worst characters that has ever appeared on the chess scene. He is even worse than Kasparov. Maybe he could compete with Korchnoi.

Huh?

What are some other strikes against him besides the whole Kramnik thing, and anything that includes Silvio Danailov?  Legitimate question.  I know admittedly much less about him than some other players, but he still seems like a good guy.

philidorposition

Yeah, if you ignore the fact that he is totally not. Smile

When Anand played Topalov for the world title, Kramnik, Carlsen, Kasparov, Ivanchuk, Svidler and others all offered to help... Anand.

Topalov had the help of.... Rybka. (And Van Wely).

Before the match, Ivanchuk stated that he thought Topalov had damaged chess itself with his accusations against Kramnik.

Topalov has no friends among his colleagues. (Except possibly fellow Bulgarian, Cheparinov.) I would almost feel sorry for him except that his wounds are self-inflicted.

(There are plenty of interviews available online where top players discuss Topalov's character.)

Yeah, I kinda felt sorry for him when that happened, but I guess they did it for a reason and they definately know him better than I do.
