Total Chess Newbie :P

Hello all!  A quick gander at my profile will tell you that I'm a brand new, fresh chess player.  One of my friends from school taught me how to play this last week, and it's like...so fun.  But now I really wanna get better.  I've been doing a lot of tactical puzzles (which is probably bad because I've messed up royally on several of them...163 to be exact, lol), and I've been playing against the Medium bot.

I don't want to be one of those bagillion new chess players who begs for the secret to improving the most quickly because I know it mostly involves practice and studying.  However, would you recommend that I verse people on live chess or should I continue playing against the bot?  This sounds stupid, but I'm mostly scared of looking like a dumbo compared to all of you guys who are crazy good.  And I don't want to jack up my rating.  But, if playing real people is more beneficial, I would be willing to overlook these fears.

Also, is it normal for chess to literally give you headaches at first? Lol, I think it's probably a combination of me staring at my computer for an obscene number of hours in one sitting and thinking in a way that I'm not accustomed.

Thanks for answering my silly questions.  If any of you more experienced players would like to be an unofficial mentor to me, I'd love to learn :D  Like..seriously..even if you're at like.. a 500 rating, I would learn a lot from you.

I want to be your Mentor, sure. I think your headaches come from sitting too long at The Computer.

And if you want to get better then Figure Out your Weaknesses and work on them.

And dont Focus too much on The Opening.

Even of you Always come Out in a disadvantegeous Position in The Opening then you can still defend and fight The Black Enemy.
