Training question

Hey folks.

Regarding mate puzzles; I was wondering whether it is better to take the time to solve each one or to just get the solutions to the ones I am having difficulty with and move on. Is it worth it to spend several minutes being stuck?

Thanks.

Yea, trying to solve it produces a more memorable experience and helps you retain it more. Its similar to how many people can remember how they won a critical tournament game or brilliant mate sacrifice, it was more memorable and therefore ingrained in more.

That makes perfect sense. Thank you. I will spend a reasonable amount of time on these then, or at least save them for when I don't have a computer.

whatever you do don't do tactics on this website for some reason they think everybody is a blitz champion and you get points taken away based on time

Yeah I personally hate being timed; as you get better you get faster anyway. As we say in martial arts, slow is smooth and smooth is fast.

Do you have any suggestions on a good site to practice tactics?

Also check out the free "Lucas Chess" program if you haven't already. It's fantastic.
