TV "Blunders" 9.8.10 #1: Magnus vs World

Sort:
Avatar of DanielRensch

On September 8th, we had a very special guest star on Chess.com/TV's: Pardon Our Blunders show! GM Jon Ludvig Hammer gave his thoughts on the Magnus vs the World match, and many other topics... Here is one:

(PS The show was open to all, so go to Chess.com/TV and check it out)!!

TOPIC #1 -- Who will win the G-Star RAW World Challenge?

Hammer: Magnus for sure! He has to go with his home town boy (whatever...)

Rensch: No way Magnus wins. World wins or draw...

Give us your take and why. Although I think the World will at least not lose, I do believe the fast time control favors the "lone wolf" and increases the chance that we (the world) will "vote poorly"... Thoughts?

Playing the test game while posting this ... and starting to think Magnus will have the upperhand on this one depending on how different the 3GMs ideas and plans will be.

I think the rapid move's favors Mag-Town, but agains the world its going to be hard to deal with. I watch the whole vid its great the Hammer is Comedy.

If people vote for moves like 15... c5? we will definetly be losing lol.

If it really is just Magnus vs 3GM tandem, the only question that remains is: Where can I buy some G-Star jeansTongue out

Right???

lol..I agree on that

So far, our position is not good. 2 files with doubled pawns(a and e), I don't have such a good feeling about this

I have a feeling everyone we're going to need a miracle Undecided

I'm assuming the GMs won't make such dubious suggestions in the actual game lol, we are already totally lost in the practice game though.

Well I guess our position won't be as bad as it is now in tomorrow's game ... but I just hope we don't end up with a position composed of a mixture of different ideas. One thing that bugs me is that ... the world never votes for what I chose on every move!

no I know, but just a sinking feeling, like the water level is rising over a riverbed..is it inevitable doom?  I think honestly though, we'll get a draw at best.

If the 3 GMs vote for the same move then it gets automatically picked no matter what the world voted, so it will be interesting to see what part of the game the GMs unanimity dominates... Do they "guide" the world through the first 15 moves of theory before they begin to diverge? Are they able to get on the same wavelength for the ending and take the world out of the equation? We only matter when they disagree, so the GMs face a prisoner's dilemma of sorts.

in a test match last night, the game ended in a draw... should i post the game score?? or sleep for an hour... hm.

almost showtime!!!

There are 3 Gms playing the game, and when they argue we get to say who is right. How is that even similar to playing an actual game? :(

I don't see the objection against 15... c5. Wouldn't it have won a Rook?
