why does it show P9 1491 and then it goes back down to P4 1096?
uhh is something wrong with this USCF page?

why does it show P9 1491 and then it goes back down to P4 1096?
It's probably a player that created a new ID and US Chess found the old account and merged the accounts. When the events re-rate, that should get fixed.

What is his rating right now though?

Besides the March tournament he hasn't played in a year and a half, and even then he was provisional...
So there's no point in looking at his rating. Plus I assume he's a kid, and kids are always underrated. If I were you I'd assume he's at least 1600.

Hes a full grown adult. Btw, he lost to a 925 this tournament.

Mine looks different, it says ONL which I assume means "online"
And in his last tournament he lost to a 900 rated player so who knows.

how did you even find it
yeah that's probably his online rating

I find it funny you withhold information (you don't give us his name, which you assume means we can't find these tournaments) but then ask us to give you information you don't have (you ask what his "real" rating is).
Anyway, you can search by tournament ID number. So I looked for tournament 201908249462 and then looked in the open section (because that's where it says he played) and looked for the player who went from unrated to 1548.

wat i don't get it
ohh i didn't know that you can seach with tournament ID (response to not bolded text)

I know you don 't get it
I don't know how online ratings work. Martin's guess seems as good as any.
I've actually been TD for tournaments and turned in results to the USCF. I find it odd that the tournament was played a month ago, and... even if the error was caught recently it's only been half-corrected... but I guess I've never seen someone who accidentally didn't play under their original ID so I don't know.

Since he's an adult and his last tournament performance rating was ~1200 I'd say his strength is closer to 1100 than 1500.
But if you want to know what his rating would have been if that tournament were added on to his previous 3, then maybe 1300. Provisional ratings are hard to guess, and I don't want to look into the math.
This would be a good question for the TD. Say your opponent has two different ratings according to the USCF site and when the TD looks at it maybe he'll know how online ratings work and can tell you.

Well I guess it doesn't matter now since I won anyways and left the zoom call so I can't really contact the TD unless I gmail him but my dad would probably not let me and just in case you were gonna say this is a run on sentence, I know, (im too lazy to type shift and periods)
