Unwanted vacation

Pickler_MZ

I'm a diamond member, which means that I can't time out - if I do time out I'm automatically put on vacation.  I don't want this, I don't think it's fair on my opponent.  I'd rather just lose on time, and only go on vacation when I choose to.  Is there anything I can do to change this - short of reverting to an unpaid plan.

No, there's no way to turn it off.

Thats what I would have done.  However I was taken to hospital suddenly and didn't get the opportunity.  I had an internal club game game going and would have resigned if I'd known, as it was I thought I would time out in a 24 hour game and so didn't worry about it.  But in fact I was shown as being 'on vacation' as I found out when I got home three weeks later.  Naturally my opponent wasn't happy although he was OK when I explained the situation.  But really I would have rather just have timed out and saved him the frustration.

I did resign when I got home, but I'd have preferred to have saved him the wait and frustration - I know what it's like when my opponent disappears 'on vacation'.  Anyway, not the end of the world, but if I could turn it off I would.  I expect to get extra features for paying, and I'm happy to support the site by paying, but I don't think I should get a competitive advantage which I have if my opponent can time out and I can't.

Now, no timing out in a ten minute game... that would be a privilege worth paying for!  (tongue firmly in cheek)

I think the core is sportsmanship.

When you have no chance of winning in a game, then please resign. It is not wise to extend the life of the game by taking a vacation. On the contrary, if you are in an advantage or a balance of power, and at this time you have a very urgent matter and cannot play chess, why not use it?

You have to know that "vacation protection" is also an important point for users to upgrade their accounts.

What have you lost? -Nothing. You keep the game after your own thinking and can continue to complete your game.

What did your opponent lose? -There seems to be nothing. Since I chose daily chess, I am ready to fight a protracted battle. Unless it is a game that violates the spirit of sports, I think many people can forgive it.

Don't think too much about the opponent, this is competitive sports. You have to win.

Not intentionally.  The system put me on vacation automatically.

It doesn't completely solve your concern, but you could keep the amount of accumulated vacation low by periodically activating vacation.  It doesn't address the issue of being automatically put on vacation, but your opponent won't have to wait as long.
