And listen, the Venn Diagram on that thing is driving me insane.

What?

Hold on. Let me find what I was referring to: "anyone thinking it's a forum panacea or even a positive thing, hasn't thought it through very thoroughly". Think about how many people that includes. That's what I mean. Anyone who likes the new feature, I guess.

An ability to sort by relevance would be nice. An ability to hide heavily downvoted topics and posts would be nice.

Sort by relevance is there, unless that part is still beta.

Its ridiculous, this is a chess site, not a social media site.

And its even worse with 10 year olds who only care about "ratios"

Didn't ask + ratio + L

I think it's a fine idea, The question is will it actually be used properly or will nearly every comment get downvoted (as is the case on this thread). I'm glad there's no "karma" system, with all the children on this site the amount of begging for upvotes would be ridiculous.

This is yet one more step, in a long series of missteps, in the wrong direction.

I think it’s a good feature. Responding to the OP: I think the argument against downvotes is faulty. If your post gets downvotes then it deserves downvotes. If you get a ton of downvotes from people who you think “don’t understand your post” then maybe your post is not right for the community. The vote feature will just correctly reflect the majority’s opinion. If you don’t want to post in a forum where the majority is “dumb” then move to a different forum or just separately message all your intended recipients.

Talk about a faulty argument ....

Another tool that will be abused.  You would think the site would learn by now.

upvotes/downvotes are irrelevant for chess.com forum posts. theyre like the flares, an icon, that has no effect.

Just ignore it. the higher ups wont remove it, the kids like it.

Of course they won't change it and of course it's irrelevant.  I really don't see this as a battle against such things as much as an opportunity for pointing out the absurdity of chess. com's focus on such trivial, pointless (and in this case also divisive and contrary to the nature of forums) "features" instead of dealing with, or even recognizing the need to deal with, more elemental and serious flaws that have been around forever.

Avatar of Ilampozhil25

relevance makes no sense as it does nothing about time (except as a tie breaker) so the ordering is completely shattered

chess.com should just rename itself chesskids, com.

From a practical perspective, I don't like this new upvote/downvote system. The upvote/downvote icons clutter up the area around the quote icon, and it takes me a fraction of a second longer to click on the quote icon. Over time, these added tenths of seconds will rob me of minutes of my life. ;-)
