If you slept badly, then you are unlikely to play your best chess.
It is possible that you pick up energy while you are playing.
The only way to find out is... to play.

Think positively, loss of one nights sleep is ok, keep well hydrated, eat good foods (no junk) have coffee before, if it’s your thing. Walk about after each round, stretch etc.
I’m sure you’ll be a winner. Most of all enjoy the day.

You appear to be way too stressed out. Go to the tournament, enjoy the fun. I sometimes had some good games on little sleep the night before. A little coffee might be a good idea, but don't get too much caffeine. Just go in with low expectations, and you'll probably be less nervous and more relaxed. Do your best, but just try to enjoy the tournament.

And if you do happen to do terrible, review the games and look at it as a learning experience.

Too much caffeine could make you crash later on, take it easy on the Red Bull. If you can get some fresh air that would be good. Wash your face in cold water. If you drink too much caffeine it acts as a diuretic, so be careful.
Can’f say whether pushups would work.

You will play about 200 points below your usual rating. If that doesn’t bother you, sure!

Lack of sleep on its own is known to make people more anxious and stressed, mix that with caffeine, your stress levels would be flying through the roof. Just take it easy, hydrate and remember it is only one tourtament, it is not like you are playing in the world cup for example.

Do push-ups on each of your opponent's turn until he/she makes a move

I think that is subjective though, because even though he probably will not play his best, 200 points weaker seems a bit of a stretch.

Push-ups are not useful. Chess requires thinking, not muscles. Breathing of fresh air is a good idea. Drinking of water or fruit juice is better than more than 2 cups of coffee or red bull.
Soldiers in war have fought for their lives after being deprived of sleep for several days, so playing some chess games after a bad night should work too.

I guess the experiences I'm going on are occasions when I've had an evening game after hardly sleeping the night before.   It sounds like the OP has a morning/afternoon tournament, in which case, things may not be so bad, at least for the early rounds.  Mornings after a poor sleep are sometimes okay. I'd expect exhaustion to set in, though, in the second half.  Maybe take a bye or two at the end if they'll let you?

@Bingo_Bop I took a cold shower

Good Luck, I played in a tournament a few years ago with no sleep the night before (due to being nervous of not having prepared well enough) so I just stayed awake while studying some more, and it was one of my best performances. I think some 'adrenaline' can be beneficial for your chess as it keeps you awake and alert, but ability to calculate may be affected if you are very tired. I think I got lucky since I didn't get many dificult positions in my games.

I once played in an OTB tournament after spending the night on the step outside the tournament hall.

Don't remember how I made out, though.

Absolute_Best I didn't take anything yet. I'm just desperate

So how did it go?

You’re going to be fine, just bribe your opponents with free piano lessons. Lmao

In a USCF tournament I had to travel 2 hours there and 2 hours back and had full time employment. After winning first 3 games was paired with very strong master but game lasted until  2 AM and then 2 hour drive back and full day work  [almost no sleep] ad 2 hour drive back and was paired with grandmaster!tongue.png
