Stop digging, Tetsuoshima. You can't get any lower. Too bad you'll never get whooped by Carissa over the chessboard. Not only are you not good enough to beat her, you're not even good enough to play her.

Come on, this is some seriously low-rent trolling.  At least make an effort man.

(for those not in the know, people from Sunderland are called 'Mackems' because this is how they pronounce the phrase 'make him.'  The true Geordie way of pronouncing all wordsa ending in -ack is to replace the 'a' with an 'e' and increase the harshness of the 'k,' so it would be more appropriately written as 'mekk')

TetsuoShima, There are not many chess players here from Japan, and a diamond as well. So in a way you are a leader, should not be caught up in petty exchanges. Try to get more Japanese chess players to join here!

There was a little girl here from Japan, age 14, last year competing for a prize Diamond membership. She was my pick, but others thought she was too young.  But I was very impressed with her response, hope she is still playing chess!

Gives a whole new interpretation to the phrase "English as a second language." : ) ..."Great Britain and the United States are two cultures separated by a common language," George Bernard Shaw : )

It doesn't work too well sometimes. I watched a documentary on the Krays and used the captions because they had a lot of British people being interviewed who had extemely thick accents. The captions were impossible to read. It's like they were just phonetic.

Even in written form I can't make heads nor tails of Cockney rhyming slang.

Like trying to read Trainspotting.

Avatar of trysts

For "Trainspotting", I had to watch that movie three times to understand what they were sayingLaughing

Sometimes I wish subtitles were available in real life.  Maybe a future Google Glass app.

I don't know how this young girl, or the other youngsters mentioned in the posts learned the game, but look at all the educational opportunities that exist now that didn't exist 25 years ago:

You can play people all over the world without leaving your home

Online courses, online master games with annotations, and online tournaments with live commentary (like the Candidates a few months ago) are plentiful

Chess databases are available, sometimes for free

Given all this, isn't it logical that we would expect a new wave of young people to take advantage of all this, and the talented, motivated, and hard working among them would rise to expert level more quickly than decades ago?  I would look forward to many young players being competative at the top level in coming years.

Yes, strong regional accents are difficult to understand, even for us Brits.

no seriously i really like the server but you cant just help but getting ganged up by small kids its so frustrating and annoying. And its so obvious, just like by pure chance 5 troll come along and all put words in my mouth, what coincidence? like nothing else to do than to troll me, i mean you wait an eternity to ever find something about chess but a troll attack you get in 20 seconds.

Its like kids play ground. really i must be an idiot to even have visited forums.

seriously if i still have sanity i dont visit a forum for a month now. Seriously for 1 month i wont be in forums if you see one post from me in any thread here in the next 30 days you can call me the most spineless idiot there is

And a big thanks still to those who increased my chess knowledge in the forums.
