Don't compare her with Fischer he was a unique player like Morphy and Capablanca that only shows up once in a 100-160 years if ever how can you compare with Beethoven Bach Mozart Baroque and Leonardo Di Vinci?!

Maybe she'll be a fine master or Grandmaster someday but it's unfair to give a child that kind of burden to live up to.

100 - 160 years?  Mozart was born 6 years after Bach's death.  Mozart died when Beethoven was 19 or 20.  There are many great renaissance painters besides Leonardo, such as the great Michelangelo.

It's quite possible to have multiple people with Fischer's talents alive at the same time.  Consider Kasparov and Carlsen, both being born during Fischer's life.

In addition, Bach and Handel were contemporaries. But, how can you compare these geniuses to the overwhelming genius of Baroque? : )

That is awesome!! Please keep us posted on her career/progress! Would be cool if she became world champ or something.

Nice graph. It shows a lot of "master" composers, but, comparing to chess, I see only 5-10 super GMs. You still only have a few absolute greats every 150 years (like Fischer/Capablanca/Kasparov level) in my opinion. :)

*Also, if anyone cares, the graph isn't too accurate in terms of groupings. Half the classical should be placed in romantic, the romantic section should split into late romantic and impressionism, 20th century into more sections like neo-classical, avant-garde, post-modern, etc. But I guess it works kind of. Comparing to chess, what if some people put Steinitz as a hypermodern player, or Tal as classical, I guess some people would be upset. Laughing

She is the right age to get to super GM if she has the tallent.  I really hope she can but the odds are still long.

Well where does heavy medal, rock amd rap come in? The problem with large orchestra being  recorded sounds like wall paper music, you get very little separation. They need to think out how to modernise, how to get a more dynamic  stereo, or surround sound out of classical music. The interest in classical may rebound?  I had a record titled, "Wellington's Victory", it came with two flags one for the right speaker and one for the left, now that was sensational sound reproduction. Oh for you young kids, it was the French, and British flags.

Most so called young "prodigies" often will hit a brick wall at maybe 18-20. There are many of them. True prodigies like Fischer/Carlsen come once in a generation.

poor chess prodigies, going to get a lot of peer pressure to not do something more fun/useful with their childhood. :P

I think what you say holds true for some... especially if they are pushed into it against their will by demanding parents. What about those kids that absolutlly love what they do? I grew up with a friend that was increadable with music... especially the piano. When I would come over... the first thing he would do was insist on playing for me the new classical piece he had learned... i remember how his face would light up at the prospect of showing his best friend what he could do :)

Well, in music history we consider Baroque to have ended in 1750 with Bach's death.  With this in mind, it becomes obvious that Baroque was just a hack that rode on the coattails of the true geniuses.  Perhaps we can say that good ol' Baroque had a few more years left with Handel, but Handel wasn't as "old fashioned" as Bach.  Baroque just couldn't keep up with the gallante style, nor claim his influence.

A better composer was Classical.  Unfortunately for him, his career was very short.  It began when he snuck in and murdered good old JS and then was butchered by Beethoven in a fit of vengence.

There are many thousands of composers that have been forgotten.  People like Stravinsky, Beethoven, Debussy, Mozart, etc. would be like Tal, Fischer, Kasparov, Alekhine, Carlsen, etc.  The others on this list would be those top players who didn't make it into the world championship lists, like Larsen, Short, etc.

The inaccuracies bother me, too.  I wonder if they went with the period in which they were born.  The last 3 of the baroque were not baroque composers.  Beethoven is often times considered the first romantic composer, and people like Wagner, Chopin, Liszt, and Verdi where in no way classicalists.  The impressionists would probably be better placed in the modern composers, except that it says 20th century.

She can excel in chess and still be a well-rounded person, have fun doing other things. The parent(s) (I hope) will have a hand in that.

chesstao

She is not a new comer.

Bobby was a lonely person who became a jewhater and anti-US supporter. He also went mad.

GhostNight

Sometimes I feel alot of stories about Bobby has escalated over the years, how much is truth and how much is fiction? But to call him mad, that is rather disrespectful do you not think? I do not think he was ever locked up with a straight jacket and padded cell? Do you?

He is a great australian chess player, but I am looking forward to an 11 year old chess player named Anton Smirmov. He is australian, and has a rating of 2300+ already!!! That has got to be world champion material I tell you

Carissa has great potential. The results have been mis-stated in the press, not surprisingly. She briefly went over the 2000 mark and has since slipped back a bit. She is playing alot and her rating will go up again soon. Although she doesn't seem pre-occupied with the record, she has about a year to catch Awonder Liang's record for reaching 2200 (he has currently slipped back below that level as well). 200+ points in a year is no piece of cake, but it is certainly doable - kids at lower levels make these kinds of jumps all the time. It was erroneously reported that Fischer did not reach the 2200 until he was 15. Completely false - as we know Fischer was the youngest grandmaster in history at 15.

Bobby F was not the youngest grandmaster in history. Judit Polgar is. She was younger by one month.

I saw a documentary about him yesterday with live footage of him speaking. He was locked up in Japan for some time.

But ofc, he was truly a great chess splayer and a seemingly nice person before his titlematch.
