Oh I see. So higher events are FIDE rated I am guessing? Otherwise they are just rated by the United States Chess Federation I am guessing? I read that on there website too. Seems the USCF takes care of everything and all you have to do is join. It was listed on their websites under FAQS and FIDE.
USA Chess Federation Ranking And Fide

FIDE tournaments used to be restricted to highly rated players around the world- pretty much experts and above. However, a number of years ago, FIDE decided to try and reach more members and lowered its minimum rating threshold from 2000 to 1000, allowing weaker players to get FIDE ratings. (You still don't even get a FIDE rating if your rating would be below 1000.)
In the United States, the USCF has offered ratings to all players since the 70's. 90+% of all tournaments in the US are rated by the USCF. A few FIDE tournaments are offered to give stronger US players the chance to achieve a rating against players with established FIDE ratings.
So I am a bit new to the whole chess ranking system ( I have never been to any sort of tournaments and have only played on Chess.com or with friends) and noticed there is two different systems? There is FIDE and there is the USA Chess Federation. Does the USA Chess Federation provide the FIDE for it's players or do I have to join the FIDE as well.
