Use of ! during play

I have found myself emulating what I have seen in books with regards to what I think is a especially good move (on my part), by typing simply "!" in the chat box. ie, a forking check that nets thier queen

 

My question is, would this be unusually rude or bad form?

Putting it in the chat box is rude but you could put it in your notes.
