Something from watching Magnus Carlsen stream early Titled Tuesday (on taketaketake stream) yesterday.
He would roll a die which had multiple numbers and dependent on what it landed, that had to be his first move. That was the case whether he was white or black so it might be g3 or g6.
Instead of a full shuffle that is Freestyle / chess960, maybe they could arrange a tournament where this was used for both players, if the purpose is to take the games out of prepared book lines.
Maybe to make it even they'd play a 2-game match (45+30 time control?) from the same two moves.
