Fritz indeed has this option. You get an extra windowpane with a second none-engined board. As for your other questions... I don't know.

Chessmaster GM edition has a memo board option, it's not two boards but you'll be notified when the computer makes a move and you can use it to snslyze however you want.
Why not just use the "try variation" mode in SCID or SCIDvsPC? You play the variation, click the button again and you are back on the mainline. I see no need for two boards at all, myself.
Guys, i meant when I am playing out a master game e.g Alekhine vs Capablanca and want to have a look at different variations etc..Wilbert the second pane you are talking about is the analysis mode in Fritz, most probably.

if you have windows 7, a recent ubuntu, you can drag any window to one side or another and it will take exactly half of the screen so open the same program twice or two different ones then open the same pgn?
In good old days, many of us would use two chess boards while playing out games.
One for the actual game and another for the variations as well as to try out our own moves.
Is there any good software for this ? I think Fritz obviously has this
feature called Analysis mode, I tried it on a friends computer who owns
it but it was a bit confusing.
Do any other chess playing softwares have this feature, where one can
have two boards open on the computer screen at the same time.
One board for the actual game and another to play out the variations. Preferably have a
Chess engine provide analysis on both boards.
Another option might be to have Fritz running with another software. Use one for the main game and another for the variations.
