I will look through my copy.
USSR Chess Championships Question

he Soviet machine had churned out many World Champions. In the top row of the above picture, Petrosian sits with his hands clasped, followed by Mikhail Tal, Boris Spassky, Mikhail Botvinnik, and Vassily Smyslov.
The USSR vs the rest of the world match, Belgade, March 29 1970 to April 5 1970

Not finding it.
There's a narrow window of opportunity as well. Petrosian died in 1984, Kasparov qualified for the Soviet Ch. beginning in 1978.

also Kasparov won the USSR championship in 1981
Thanks everyone for looking into this. The picture posted is similar, but the one I'm looking for is a more official version. The one I'm looking for, everyone is positioned and looking at the camera. And I remember that Karpov and Kasparov were definitely at the event.
Thanks again everyone for looking into this for me. I greatly appreciate it!!

Is it any of these pictures in this forum?

Hi,
About a decade ago, my friend and I were reading an edition of “The Oxford Companion to Chess” (that we had borrowed from the public library) and saw a picture from one of the USSR Chess Championships and were amazed at all the legendary players in the one picture. It had Botvinnik, Spassky, Petrosian, Tal, Smyslov, Karpov, Kasparov, and I believe one or two others I can’t recall. Every couple of years, one of us will mention that picture and reminisce about the old days when we started playing chess together. My friend’s wife is now in the final stages of cancer and I would like to get that picture for him. Just something to allow him to focus on something else and remember a good time in his life, even if it’s for just a little bit.
Does anyone know of the picture I am referring to and which USSR championship it’s from? I would greatly appreciate your help in this! Thanks.
