SO ANNOYING ! i  played for nearly half an hour and only gained 1 point because a draw was given?? and i was 1 move away from checkmate? why does this happen its hardly fair

It's stalemate.

(What move do you expect from black next?)

1200 rated player. Cannot see stale-mate. Cannot properly convert KQ v K into a win.

My god.

Learn the rules of chess first.. It's stalemate.

If it's black to move, the draw was not "given"... oh ... yep.. the move record is right there. It says 71. Kd6. With that, white trapped the BK and created the stalemate..

Black's king is perfectly safe where it is, but he cannot move anywhere without going into check. Therefore, there are not any legal moves for Black, and this is a stalemate.

You could have every single piece on the board against only his king, but if you aren't careful, you might get a stalemate.

When you are in the endgame, ALWAYS make sure that your opponent can make at least 1 move.

Pathetic, but I've done worse.

(-Mat03) BLUNDER - Sad! You were winning and now you are facing an unavoidable checkmate. Your best continuation was 29. Qe6

Stalemate - Your opponent has no Legal moves.

In my opinion you didn't deserve victory because you had worse position somewhere in the ending. Your opponent blundered and you did it so result is logical. If you hadn't played this way you would be higher rated so it's again logical. And on top of that looks like you don't know chess rules. :)

I bet this won't be the last time.  It happens to all.

Not one move from victory but rather four.

I don't like to give advice to those who haven't done some research but the essence of chess is to be like a lawyer in a trial who asks a question of a witness: KNOW THE RESPONSES BEFORE YOU MOVE (or ask a question).

You should not be annoyed.

The draw was not given.

You blundered by moving the King to D6

You created the result.

Does not look at rating in the screen cap itself. Goes by player's top rating displayed in forums without checking # of games played.

Qf7 Kc8 Qe7 Kb8 Qd7 Ka8 Kc6 Kb8 Qb7#

the fastest way to checkmate. KQ v K you always keep the queen a knight's move away.

Avatar of adumbrate

No, you play Qf7 , next bring the king close (as you already have the king on the side)
