Vicariously-I (2200) vs cyboo (1300) Game Analysis

Cyboo challenged me and asked for my thoughts on the game. Cyboo doesn't write in the forums anymore because he has imposed a self-ban on himself so I don't expect him to post here. He did thank me many times during and after the game though.

To recap:

I thought you played extremely well, far above 1300. Apart from the blunders at the end I would say you played like at least an 1800-2000 player. I think you have a very good understanding of how chess should be played, but your blunders hold you back. If you work on your blunders then you will be above 1300 in no time. You also need to be more cautious about undefended pieces. Your Knight on a5 and your pawn on c2 ended up being tactically vulnerable. So my recommendation for you to improve would be to work on your tactics by solving a lot of chess puzzles. I think that would be the fastest way for you to get better.

You can see the analysis of the game here.

If you look at the graph from move 25 to move 41 you can see how it slowly crept back to being about equal. This means that during those moves you were actually outplaying me, which is very impressive.

Hey, I have been reading through a lot of these challenges, and I just wanted to say, thank you for doing these! I have learned a lot through just looking at these games and your notes. I would also like to play a game against you, if that is OK, and perhaps you can analyze it and critique my play, and give me an estimated rating? I am curious about what my true skill rating is!

But, thanks for doing these games and posting them here! I have learned a lot!

Cyboo, a 1300 drew with Michael? Wow thats impressive! I'm checking the game.

One more remark on this game actually: The position arising after 4. Nxd4 is known to be relatively good for black, because of 4... Nf6 5. Nc3 e5 and black is already doing well. After either Nb3 or Nf3, black can play 6... Bb4.

That's why black should not play 3. d4?! after 1. e4 c5 2. Nf3 a6, and also why the move order chosen in this game is inaccurate for an Open Sicilian as well. I think white would've been better off going for the Morra.

Happy to hear that you've learned a lot!

I'm trying to reduce the number of daily games I have. Maybe I'll play you when I have fewer games.

Oh ok yeah that makes sense. I was just trying to get back to variations that I know so I didn't really bother looking to see if there was a more precise way to play.

It could have been a draw but we both missed the tactic to draw the game.

I agree, but you have to give credit to cyboo for playing well above his rating.

He didn't.

You're entitled to your opinion.

Ok,  i'm gonna teach you something.    Everyone is actually entitled to their own opinions.  Now that that's out of the way,  cyboo played to his rating and you must be all sorts of messed up because you played to his rating too.

You created your account today so you're obviously just a troll and I won't bother responding to you further.

I haven't been in the forums much lately.

Sometimes @cyboo asks me to play live games. He feels tougher than his rating. I get the impression he's working to improve and taking the games seriously.

Yeah during the game he said that he was underrated. After playing him I can definitely say that that is the case, haha.
