This may have been discussed before but I'm starting to realize there are some huge differences between playing chess via the net compared to playing over the board chess. Most of my playing takes place via the net. I manage to get out and play chess in a few public places. There are differences. I hope that if they haven't done so already, they will devise a 3 D viewing chess program where the view simulates real chess. The current 2 D versions we now experience is easier to analyze the moves. It is similar looking at at a chess board from directly above. It's much easier to spot threats than a real board game where we sit and face each other across the table. In net playing, we usually don't see our opponnents unless cams are used. We remain anonymous. In real board games, maybe the opponnents presence can be sometimes intimidating, especially if its a stranger. There is more than likely an effect on our pysche. I have mostly wins via the net but losses in real OTB games. That hopefully will change as I get more experience with OTB games. Has anyone experience any noticeable changes in game play between these two vehicles?
