Hey, you don't have to apologize, it's fine.
Vishy Anand is now a planet

Who wouldn't want to have something in space named after them?
Yes, thats what i wanted to say :) Its a big achievement, but people just have hates in their heart here:)

Just to give this all a bit of perspective, anyone with a few bucks can get a planet or star named after them. Anand is a great grandmaster and deserves our respect, but please let's not worship him. It was a nice gesture, but it really doesn't mean anything as there are more small planets than the population of the earth and probably billions of stars per person on earth. Go Anand and keep on playing!
Yeah, but Vishy Anand became a planet. Big difference.

Not really. There's a scam where the suckers pay for a phoney certificate saying some star is named after them, but it isn't really.

What about Ringo ? He hasn't paid....

The minor planet names are given by International Astronomical Union, not by NASA (correcting the headline). However, congratulations to Anand who deserved this honour! In addition: asteroid 154493 is named after Hungarian grand master Lajos Portisch: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meanings_of_minor_planet_names:_154001%E2%80%93155000#493
anyhoo, there are extra-solar planets (. gas giants like Jupiter orbiting other stars) being discovered all the time. would be super-cool to be named to one of those, but you probably have to be a despot or something

Cythaera, there are plenty of chess players, and other public figures just waiting to be associated with gas-giants, few things could be as appropriate. When I see the news flash about a minor planet named after a world champion chess player called--BigotedLoon, I will know R. Fisher is now a planet.
