Despite canceling my membership and explicitly stating I didn't want to renew, Chess.com charged me again without consent.

BEWARE:

  • They may charge you even after cancellation
  • Double check your bank statements
  • Take screenshots of your cancellation
  • Remove your payment method after canceling

Has anyone else experienced this? Please share your stories to warn others.

My friend, I did cancel it before. Like 3 months ago.
But the support did fix it. So, it is alright now.
Did you really think that I cancel the renew after the date? Hahaha.

Yes, I admit I may have overreacted. I had a bad experience with another company that kept charging me and refuse to remove my payment info, forcing me to cancel my credit card. But I shouldn't mix that experience with Chess.com, which seems to be a serious and honest company. That's my bad.

A lot of members planning on cancelling renewal wait until the day of the renewal and don't realize the exact time it's set to charge. In such a case it's very possible to click the cancel option after the renewal is already in process.

The system tracks the exact times of purchase, cancels, and renewals, so if you canceled three months in advance staff should be able to track that and see if there was a bug.

Of how people realize they may have overreacted?

And how Chess.com worked everything out for them?

That is one thing that Chess.com is very good about. It may take a little patience but they always work things out fairly if there is a possibility.
