Almost all of the forums here can be answered with - "Does it matter?"
Was Bobby Fischer crazy?

he was delusional, but he was an extremely good chess player, and was a shame to see him leave the chess community.

Bobby ficsher said in quotes”this is wonderful news, I want to see the U.S.A wiped out. This was after 9/11

Take the oil, yeah!
I think you owe all of Finland an apology, and I don't believe for one minute that you are Finnish.
And just for the record, since you bring it up, Mr. Trump's "Take The OIL" stance and his "We'll torture WORSE Than Waterboarding" these...
ARE WAR CRIMES, FOOL!
!
Cnj has cornered the market on crazy. I can't count the number of people on the site Cnj has claimed were "Russian bots"

Crazy is not a diagnosable mental illness, and Bobby did not submit to diagnosis. Hence, we can only speculate as to what was wrong. But, he clearly was not right in the head.
You could say that he was not normal, since he acted crazy. His chess wasn't crazy. I read that he quit because he didn't want to play the Russian #1 GM, at the time, whose name I forget.

Karpov wasn't anywhere close to Fischer's strength until he started his titannic duels with Korchnoi and Kasparov. They really helped Karpov ramp up his playing strength.

Actually you are wrong. Fischer beat Spassky in the 1972 match by a large margin (even with blundering away the first game and not showing up for the second game), but Karpov basically crushed Spassky in the 1974 Candidates by an even more lopsided score. Karpov was young and relatively inexperienced at the time, but he could have feasibly given Fischer a run for his money had they played in 1975, especially since Fischer's mental health had begun slowly unraveling.

Actually you are wrong...
Are you familiar with Chessmetrics? Their methodology seems quite sound to me (and I've worked in computers since 1973).
In their all-time rankings, they rank Fischer at #2, with his three-year peak playing strength (~2867) in 1970-72.
They rank Karpov at #7, with his playing strength not peaking (at 2833) until 1988/89/90. That's more than a decade after he would have been facing Fischer.
Those figures are for a three-year rolling average. The "single best year" figures are slanted even more in Fischer's favor... #1 at 2881 rating in 1972 vs #7 at 2842 rating in 1989 (seventeen years later).
The Chessmetrics "playing strength" figures are obtained by quite conservative formulae. You can check their website if you are interested in the methodology:
Welcome to the Chessmetrics site

In some ways, even if for example Kasparov is 2771 in November 2004 while Steinitz is 2826 in April 1876. This doesn’t mean that Steinitz played better chess in 1876 than Kasparov did in 2004, but only that Steinitz is assessed to have had a better relative position compared to his contemporaries in 1876 than Kasparov had in 2004.
Crazy my arse. Just because he didn't do what scum of the earth wanted they made him out to be mad. But people like me can see through all the bullcrap so the lies will never have an effect on me. I find it hard to understand why so many believe the fake arse lies about him.
