Well, the dutch and trompowsky are quite decent openings, surely not the most advisable at the highest level but still...
i do agree with your point about the chigoriin and he played the budapest gambit too...rofl

Chucky was just being Chucky...
This.
BTW... Judit Polgar (the only woman ever to appear on the world's top-ten rating list) was asked during an interview to name a few of the past century's "true chess geniuses". The first name she mentioned? Ivanchuk.
I actually thought Chucky played really good but is a funny character lol. Like his budapest against Aronian gave him a decent position in th emiddlegame. He just got into time trouble, had he not then Aronians attack on the h file and diagnol probably would have failed i remember during the analysis there were a couple defensive options but Ivanchuk was just dead down on time. Also, i respect the Trompovsky to a great extent. Its actually a really logical opening since after 1.d4 you are probably going to have to support the center with e3 trapping in your bishop. Its a great out of fashion line.
What i thought was funny was the Carlsen and Ivanchuk interview where Ivanchuk won. It started with Carlsen saying "id like to just say i am completely disgusted. The way i played from move 1 was disgraceful." Lol no credit to Ivanchuk. And when Carlsen was going through the game at one point he got frustrated with the endgame analysis and asked Ivanchuk what he thought about a certain position and he said "I HAVE NO IDEA" lol.
Then you think of Kramnik who needs this final win as black and cant prepare anything because this chucky guy has played everything in the book lol
I still dont understand how you can get into time trouble when you play a very rare opening. That should put your opponent into timetrouble (unless he prepared) is it not?
Two of my favorite Chucky games:
A Caro-Kann Fantasy Variation that's just totally off-the-wall:

... what was Chucky smoking that day?
And one in which he makes former world champion Topalov look like a patzer:

Chucky spanked him like a red-headed step-child... how often do you see a world champion beaten in 25 moves?

When he plays a centaur. I dont know Ivanchuck enough, so I shouldnt be saying this. I should respect his game and strength, and I do. But all this gives me the impression that he is a really strong player who somehow makes use of an engine. He fools around with the best, and loses to inferior players. He could be a perfectionist or he has another mental issue (I dont mean mental sickness here) that prevents him from being worlds nr1. But it just all seems very odd to me. Could it be that Ivanchuk is one of the first players who has an allmost indetectable way to use an engine? And that he is good enough to not show it in his style of play?
I have no other agenda. I am not pissed of that he won against Carlsen or anything else. It's just that if I had to put my money on someone who is cheating, then Ivanchuk would be it. And: if Ivanchuk doesnt use an engine, then I take all this back. But they are just thoughts, not allegations.

In fact, Chucky has variously been considered somewhere between "extremely eccentric" and "mentally ill" for at least the past fifteen years. Other grandmasters (including Anand) sometimes call him "Planet Ivanchuk", to indicate that he lives in his own little world.
Can i get a linky to the tromp game?
This one?

Just google Ivanchuk vs Aronian

He's almost like a stereotypical insane genius. He sometimes looks like he has no idea what he is doing, yet on his day he wipes out the likes of Kramnik and Carlsen.
If I could pick one of the world's top players to play against, I'd definitely pick Ivanchuk.
Oh, sure, given the opportunity of a lifetime I'd totally squader it in a pointless attempt to punk the other candidates.
GM Melik said Ivanchuk on his best day, can beat anyone...and is the best player of all time (on his best day).
One putt is not an entire game.
My best putt may be as good as Tiger Woods' best (though I doubt it), just as my best move (probably 1. e4) is as good as anyone's.
I can sustain neither over the course of an entire game, which was the point being made.
And one game is not a tournament. It was a sarcastic comment, but my point is that consistency shouldn't be undervalued.

i would think Kramnik has beaten himself, even though i still find both Ivanchuks games against Carlsen remarkably wel played.
Ivanchuk's performance at the 2013 Candidates was by far the most memorable(in my opinion) out of all the players. He was clearly trolling! Who plays the Dutch, Chigorin's, and the Trompowsky in the Candidates lol? (no offense to you practitioners out there). Vassily loses multiple games because of time, and then proceeds to WIN against Magnus AND Vlad in the closing rounds of the tournament, with both games having near perfect play from Ivanchuk?
He was just trollin it up.
