25 min is a perfectly worthy time control. Chess should be organized like Tennis, where there are multiple games per set. I understand people who would like to preserve the artistic purity of Chess, but even Magnus said at the recent press conference that it is a sport, and not art, at least for the purposes of competitive money making. And, unfortunately, that's what its all about. If you're looking for pure art, listen to music, or visit an art gallery.
WC to be determined by fast chess - for shame!

Its a shame that the world chess championship is being reduced to speed chess to determine the champion. I thought they alread had bullet, and blitz world chess championships?
Why not decide the world series with "Tie goes to the runner"
Superbowl can be decided by a punt, pass, and kick competion.
Stanley Cup can be decided by arm wrestling.
As long as its "exciting" to the fans.

I would like to see:
4 games classic slow chess.
4 games slow but 960
4 games regular chess rapid
4 games rapid 960
If it's 8-8 at that point then 4 blitz and 4 blitz 960 all played in one day, and if 12-12 then I guess bullet, 2 games at a time until someone is ahead.
I understand people who would like to preserve the artistic purity of Chess,
What does a long time control have to do with artistic purity? A long time control is about quality of the games.

The idea that 2 25 year olds don't have energy to play a 16 game match seems absurd to me. WC were routinely 24 games, and the two K's played a 5 month 48 game match once.
These 2 would need 200 games until someone does 6 wins.
If they played non-games like today, more like 200 lifetimes
10 draws and 2 wins, now the rest will be determined by fast chess. That's all? That is what we waited two years for?

Frankly I wish all the games were played faster. Maybe not just 25 minutes, but close.
Yes, more than 12 would be good.
And also, they should go back to the rule where if the challenger can't overcome in the set number, then the current champion still stands. There does not need to be a tie-break.

Carlsen and Karjakin can both co-sponsor the latest sleeping pill after this match. Even the press conferences are dull. Karjakin has a terrible speech impairment and I cringe every time he is asked a question. Carlsen is even worst as he no excuse. Does he ever give more than a one sentence answer ? He gives me the impression that he would rather be anywhere but where he is.

ed 1975 ,Tal played in a match were the winner was decided by arbiter of who the dog would go to if offered mutton , pretty sure it was Tal , but a chess match was decided by this way
Chillax, guys. I don't know about the Championship tie-break rules themselves, but Carlsen and Karjakin don't have an obligation to provide exciting, entertaining games for the audience, or give intriguing and fascinating answers to the press. If they want to play the Ruy Lopez a bunch of times and give one-sentence answers, so be it.

THIS IS A TRAVESTY! We should all go to New York City tomorrow to protest! We're going to stay there and block the streets, so that on Wednesday Carlsen and Karjakin can't get to the venue to play the games! Let's see if the organizers are going to continue ignoring us then!

I hope I'm not the only one who thinks this match is exciting. I mean I actually like the idea of 7+ hour games, two even opponents playing their best (for the most part), not giving up, and endurance. Although the formats are different, this match is reminiscent of older WCC's like Steinitz and Lasker... I actually like how we've reached 12 games simply because there is a good amount of anticipation.
The next few games will be no different than chess.com. Sad to see WC be downgraded to fast chess.
