Weak Players

for some people chess is not important except to sometimes pass the time during a coffee break. that's why pal.

I see chess as a language, like music or art too. If you learn a language at a very young age one can speak fluently. This means that in chess a player can calculate effortlessly, on the back of a mind that is geared up by a wealth of deep rooted knowledge. The best players usually have a background of determining poor play at the very earliest outset and dealing with it there and then so that they never make similar mistakes ever again. I find that though I have improved through study etc, in practice, time after time i will be losing games by way of some poor decision that I cannot seem to avoid, no matter how much I try.
It comes down to habits that became ingrained... bad or good!
The joy for me these days is to entertain my mind with all the chess wisdom and knowledge that is available in books, videos and online etc, rather than stress about wether or not I am getting better. But I appreciate the hungry players who want to reach the top! I was one of them in my late teens. Now chess is a hobby... but a seriou hobby ie. It makes me happy, even if losing a game still really hurts! I have to be philosophical in this respect. I find that my play has improved a slight touch because of that.
Members shouldn't be so quick to judge others who may not be improving etc. I am a complete idiot when it comes to chess, don't even know how to move, but I am learning. And someone had kindly given me two games to play with them. This means more to me than any rank or number.
Just remember others will never forget how you made them feel

When Nakamura says that blitz is good for your chess, especially the tactical side of the game, he is coming from a very different perspective than most. In fact, as Quicksilverau points out, and Fischer stated too, Blitz destroys one's ability to play chess in a strategical way, and back that up with good tactical evaluations.

I have done 15,000 tactics in the trainer yet I still hover around 1200 in that rating category....I think that, like perhaps myself, people simply can't "see" ahead like others in the game can.

doing tactics doesn't make you any better. learning is what makes you better. it's like when you go beyond your abc to start putting words together.

some people are not serious about chess they just want to have fun. i don't understand this because for me it's fun to win! and the only way i can keep winning is by learning more about chess.
This ^

I played more than 5000 10-minute games and what? How are slow games and analysis are supposed to make me better? I'm terrible at time managment and overlook simple things. I won't be a champion in any sport even if i follow the best training procedures so the only thing i can do is just enjoying the game.

longer games are not 'boring' to me... they are more difficult because we have to work out as much as we can and not miss specific tactical lines. Evaluating what we see in our minds eye once we have calculated (and during calculation) various possibilities is what differentiates players of different levels. The 'fun' for me in longer games can lead to frustration. Hoping to keep control over what is happening requires a wide breadth of knowledge and understanding, which is not always possible. Playing blitz is also 'fun'. But it is rather hard to evaluate and understand a position when one relies only on immediate tactics and a superficial evaluation. However, it is very exciting to play a lot of games one after the other and quickly bosh out move after move.

I dont understand people who play over 10 000 or 5 000 games here, and they are still 1200, 1300 or 1400 ?? Why they play chess if they dont improve ? What is the point ? Are they so unintrested for chess or.... ? What is the point ? People are here 7 8 years playing actively and they are still 1200 ?
It's about fun. Chess is art...it is the game of kings. Ratings are great and competition is welcome, but most of all, chess is about beauty and sportsmanship. Excuse me if this sounded cliche haha. It it very true though.
