Can you use web-cams on this site, i think it would be good to see and talk to your opponent

artfizz

You could do it alongside chess.com e.g. using Skype or IM.

I can see the threads now -- along side other asinine topics like morphy vs bishops vs ettiquite vs chat filters we can have "is it rude to do video chat when not clean shaven with a nice shirt on?  My last opponent was wearing stripes with plaid and I don't think that's ok."

Happy to use Sype if we are playing several moves in a row.

Skype now supports multi-way video, so you could watch ALL of your opponents simultaneously (provided your equipment is like Kohai's).

Then I would have to start wearing pants

Or you'd see posts from people complaining of their opponent making rude gestures.

Would be funny though when you capture one of your opponent's pieces to hold up that piece from a real chess set in front of the camera and say for instance, "Got your knight!"

I believe "I ate your horsy!" followed by a burp would work better :')

It could be delightful to play with ladies. . .both players well dressed and mannered.

Chess isn't a great game for webcam use since talking is normally discouraged. Also

I don't know if the resulting etiquette would be at all similar to the kind of thing seen during in-person chess tournaments.  At the same time, I don't know if this website is even capable of degeneration seen on platforms such as Chat Roulette.  Assuming there would be a feature to deactivate it, I don't see how this feature could be a negative thing.  It might be fun with someone you know in person, but lives far away.  While not great for competitive random matches, a friendly game might enjoy this addition.

I think that the day is not far when webcams will be used here... although, come to think of it, it's rather absurd.

If you're interested in playing chess on this site, you will avoid the use of webcams. If the social interaction of this site takes precedence over the game, you'll probably make use of them. With the anonymity of the web and the number of members here, I'd expect a fair amount of irresponsible behavior associated with their use. Call me a pessimist.
