Note that +/-1 in a drawn position is normal: the draw margin in Chess is about 1.5 Pawn. So +/-1 means the engine acknowledges it is a draw. It is of course essential that the engine distinguishes draws that are nearly won from draws where it has to fight not to lose, or it would never be able to win from a drawn position against a fallible opponent.
The most spectacular misevaluation I have seen (apart from cases where there is a forced mate just beyond the horizon) is when you play 3 Queens against 7 Knights. Most top engines count themselves at better than +8 when they play the Queens, in this totally lost position. (-2 would be a more accurate evaluation.)
Hi all,
All of us (hopefully) know that sometimes, computers give really wonky evaluations to positions, such as giving a +/- 1 in drawn positions. They also give plus 5 or more in positions that "could" still be difficult for humans to win (no, I'm not talking about Nakamura's infamous loss vs Carlsen in a +12 position).
I was wondering, what sorts of positions have you seen/played that are super complicated and hard to play(for humans), yet computers give +/- 5 or more?
