Wesley So closes chess.com account?!

Hi chess.community! I was just wondering if anyone knows about why Wesley So might have closed his account on this site. I was very disappointed to find that he terminated his membership here, and supposedly won't be playing on chess.com anymore. Any insight would be welcome, thanks!

probably.thats what happens when people make threads trashing top gms from the comfort of your trailerpark.. turns out its a priveledge to have them play here and the lack of respect by some users can get under the skin of anybody

Can you blame him? Erik taking a stronger hand against the endless trolling that takes place here on these “forums” would go a long way to help; unfortunately Erik has chosen traffic generated by the trolls over the cultivation of a serious chess environment as a foundational element of his business model.

That's the American way!

Maybe Wesley didn't care for V3...

I doubt is any comments here have any effect on Wesley and there have been a lot in this year proclaiming him the next World Champ, etc.

If he closed an account here, there's likely to be a problem with either the site administrators or chess masters who are closely tied to chess.com.

I think it was because of the hammering against carlsen in the speed chees championships

diego3141

he is probably not on speaking terms

He might be paying attention; it’s not a surprise for a troll to post a forum message entitled “Wesley So R.I.P.” but it is surprising that this post still exists 6 days later. Again, this is a culture Erik has chosen to cultivate. A shame, really..

"Allowing people to freely express their thoughts" used to be very important back in the day when civility was an important personal attribute in day-to-day discourse.  Now, everyone with a nasty, infantile "thought" feels he or she must express that worthlessness publicly as if it has the same weight as intelligent discussion.  Lots of feeling people may wish to abandon that cesspool to an over-the-board environment where such idiotic behavior is rare and simply not tolerated.  I can't blame them.

Probably to get another account. GMs do that on here. Also if So really closed his account because of the criticism for the game against Magnus, then he needs to toughen up. The internet is a tough place. Praise and criticism both go to the extremes.

If So had won then I am sure people here would have been tripping over themselves to declare him the new world champion already.

Doc_Detroit

Are trolls who throw stones from behind a wall of anonymity "people"?

FlipOneUp

Calm down. Wesley So probably wants a new, more discreet UserID or User Name so he can practise blitz without being trolled.

ErikWQ

Titled players are allowed more than one account so wanting to be anonymous wouldn't be the reason. Maybe Magnus traumatized him. Maybe another site threw a bunch of money at him to only play there. Maybe he got sick of all the bs notes and messages idiots leave on titled players profiles. Who knows...

Serphiot

He was never the type for online chess. Probably decided to not play online chess anymore and only focus on OTB chess.

He closed his account on Lichess a while back after playing a few people who were cheating, you can find a topic on Reddit about that, google it I am too lazy to find and insert the link.

I was watching some of the computer chess championships recently on ChessTV, I think it was the day before the Carlsen vs. So match.

The GM host, I forget his name, said something like: "Wesley is playing in Live, warming up for the match."

Danny then said something like: "Great, he has sent me a few messages, I love investigating accounts for fair play violations."

He then lost quite badly against Carlsen.

He then closed his account.

Note:

The quotes above are not the exact words spoken on the live show, just the general meaning of what the 2 hosts were talking about.

Doc_Detroit

Online chess just ain't "his thing."

real-gone-kitteh

Nakamura also got really bad at chess by playing against a bunch of cheatin dweebs on this place. So did the right thing.

ErikWQ

Wesley played one cheater on the 14th. Pretty much all the rest of his other recent games were against other titled players. I highly doubt that 3 games against 1 cheating douchebag would make him quit.
