Wesley So resigned after 6 moves

If you are told not to do something, but then do it again, it may be that you forgot.

If you are told twice not to do something, yet do it again, it is open defiance of the rules, or a powerful compulsion or need to do so.

He did not follow the rules and had been given two warnings?  If this is true, he had a reason to do what he did, knowing the consequences.

Something is very wrong.

In golf, players get disqualified quite often for minor rules infractions. In So's case, he didn't just break the same rule three times, he defied the TD by continuing to break the rule even after he had been warned.

I'm not fond of Akobian "tattling" on So, but he really did bring this on himself.

"What people? the Chess Federation of the Philippines?"

Did the Philippines pay for his college expenses or did his parents?  How did he get to go to USA and train and study at Webster to begin with?

You want to talk about corruption Polgar and her hench husband are no better.  As a player I respect Polgar, but the games she plays is just as bad leaving Texas.  She even left Hungary.  The apple doesn't fall too far from the tree, eh?

I would support this a whole lot more if we got rid of country distinctions.  If you are going down the path of discrediting a country, then that is ammunition to rid team events based on country and allow people to form leagues.

The point is he had support of family, friends, coaches, teammates, students, etc...

Then when he got his break, he left the "band" to go solo.  If that is the kind of guy he is and you appreciate it, then that's your prerogative.  That's not the way my morals rest.

What do you mean he left ( can you explain more)? Disobey? People don't stay in college forever so i don't think its that bad leaving webster, its either now or a few years soon.

I can understand what are your morals but it would be nice if you could explain it a little more so i can understand it easier. :o

"We have alsays been a magnet for immigrants"

And they need to declare they now represent America, get top trainers, and live with a host family?  Your logic is greatly flawed.

"People don't stay in college forever"

No, but the intent is to graduate.  Parents save money to send their kids to graduate.  Do I really need to explain this?

"it would be nice if you could explain it a little more so i can understand it easier."

Ok, here, I'll make it simple.  If you are going to drop out of university and disrespect your family, then, TELL THEM BEFORE YOU REAP ALL THE BENEFITS OF A TOP CHESS PLAYER.  It's like dating a girl who pretends to be interested in you, and then when she gets what she wants she upgrades to a new boyfriend.

Ah! Taking notes are SO irrelevant!

"You seem to have the peculiar notion that people must never be allowed to immigrate, or change jobs, or do anything to improve their lives or pursue their dreams."

You seem to have a peculiar notion that when someone says something you disagree with, that you should state the extremes and exaggerate what the other person stated in order to prop up a straw man argument.

This is not the So family immigrating to USA.  So, I don't get where you are saying I am against immigration.  They have money, they are accountants and have ties with the US government.  They could easily afford a house and live and support So while he plays chess and goes to university.  Burnt that strawman.

"change jobs"

What job did he change?  That is like saying a pregnant woman changed the father of the child.  Impossible.  That's like saying you go to a 4 month training program, and then you bail after 2 months.  You never had a job to begin with.  You were in training, how do you call that changing jobs?  Burnt that strawman.

"pursue their dreams"

Dictators have dreams too.  Not all I want to aspire to.

"Perhaps because you grew up living under a totalitarian dictatorship, the whole idea of human freedom seems to confuse and enrage you."

Comical.  Because I am living in China, I must be Chinese.  Second mistake, your view of China is incorrect.  I suggest you come here and find out exactly who Chinese people are.  They don't do things through proxy, through voting, through representation.  If something is wrong, they talk in groups more so than Americans.  I am American.  I was born in a suburban area and raised with the notion I could treat people like crap and get away with it.  However, I don't.  I learned about the world.  I suggest you do too.

"Susan Polgar is fully within her rights to choose what country she lives in and to change jobs."

Yes, if there are leagues.  I am speaking in scope of chess.  You are making it sound like I am saying if she were a doctor she couldn't practice in another country.  That's not what I am stating at all.

What is the point in saying "THE AMERICAN PLAYER" when we know very well and good he is a Filipino player?  It's stupidity if you ask me.

So you're saying Wesley didn't tell them before he become a top chess player? How are you sure about that?

Can you differentiate between Wesley's school dropout and other chess players doing so? Are they bad too then? ( Carlsen,Fischer) for dropping out.

About People don't stay in college forever.

I was talking more about his coaches and teammates in webster. Not the importance of graduating in college. ( Of course it has its importance)

Why would leaving Webster meant that he was a traitor to his coaches and teammates and Webster?

Or That isn't what you meant.  Still not easy enough to understand.

Dropping out of school doesn't mean you disrespected your parents. Just look at Carlsen -.-

I know Carlsen's situation is different but he still dropped out.

No bad feelings man, I don't hate you for having a different opinion but not sure if you hate me. :D

Sorry if i am too stupid for you lol

I can agree with that because I and Filipino's still think that he is giving glory to our country even with the federation switch. People just decide to call him American because he lives there and represents the USCF and / or its more convinient to do so for some people.

He grew up as a flipino so I think of him as a Filipino

"So you're saying Wesley didn't tell them before he become a top chess player? How are you sure about that?"

Maybe they thought he wouldn't make it till after he graduated.  There is a lot less chance they discussed him leaving than him finishing a degree.

"Can you differentiate between Wesley's school dropout and other chess players doing so? Are they bad too then? ( Carlsen,Fischer) for dropping out."

Fischer changed countries?  I didn't know that.

Carlsen changed countries? I didn't know that, and who is that masked man with Carlsen every game holding his orange juice?

"Why would leaving Webster meant that he was a traitor to his coaches and teammates and Webster?"

If you spent time training someone for 2 years to be part of a winning team, knowing there are 2 more years (4 total), then they got up and left midway it sure would feel like they were abandoning you.  I never made a claim he was a traitor.  That is something you mentioned earlier.

A traitor would be more if Wesley So was with a Filipino team, trained with them, and then left for the US to tell them what the training was about.  He hasn't to my understanding shared any inside knowledge.  He left the team, not a traitor.

Wanting to be the best at a board game is a silly thing for an adult to aspire to and be consumed with.  This is why most adults give up the game as a serious pursuit (keeping it as a hobby) and only those with arrested development keep plugging away.

So needs to get away from those people using him to further their own agenda and I wish him the best.

Yes

There are only 4 or 5 respectable professions in the world. Also I hope people stop making So follow rules.

What are you talking about? I was talking about comparing Wesley dropping out of school to other chess players that dropped out of school. I never said Fischer or Carlsen changed countries earlier. Seriously? Now you're just talking nonsense.

^ When he talked of Carlsen chaging countries he was talking about that trol article by Pete earlier. @tigerprowl9 yeah yu should know that whole thing about Carlsen changing countries was a joke.

Avatar of XDave121X

So you think Wesley so was bad to his parents ( for abandoning college) but he didn't do anything wrong to his teammates and coaches in Webster?
