At least you have a game you can learn from.
I consider a waste of time even if if I have to wait for 30 min game, 10 min after dominating the opponent with +6 advantage and wasting another 30 mins on his moves that dont involve a plan, and waiting until his clock counts down.
Love it when I spend a half hour playing a rapid game and I find out after the game my opponent was cheating 😡
Why do I even try
thats why bullet is the best mode ,no cheaters plus fast and fun games
It's possible to cheat in every time control, but yeah, most experienced players prefer fast time controls, and a big part of that is cheaters... and even if someone does cheat against you in a speed game, you only lose 1 or a few minutes, so it's not as frustrating.

Computer engines do have a plan, you just cannot see it so readily.
Because these plans are much bigger and multiparametric than most humans can mentalize.
But they are still plans as in: making logical steps toward an intended future state.
Basically the engine calculates the quickest path to checkmate n moves deep. And so with human players, the plan should always be checkmate, and not just a subroutine towards a state that's hypothesized to be advantageous.
Anyway, some of my most instructive games come from playing bots. They allows you to uncover unseen lines, gambits, and optimize endgame structures.

You can check their account before you play them to check if they're a cheater or not, and if they look suspicious you can abort the game.

From experience, roughly half of the untitled players with a rapid rating over 2200 ... well, lets just say they are not legitimate. The longer the time control, the more likely it is to run into that problem. (For those that would dispute that, just take a look at the global leaderboard for rapid time controls and filter out all the titled players - it quickly becomes obvious when you look at the games of those non-titled players ... for example, the highest rated untitled player in the rapid time control has a rapid rating of over 2600 on chess.com, with a FIDE rating of 1600). I stopped playing in the SCL because of this problem (kept running into players who were rated sub-1000 OTB, with recent events, but beating class A and experts consistently every week).
There are 2 ways I've found to reduce this:
1) Play faster time controls. Granted, this doesn't eliminate the problem, but it does reduce the likelihood significantly (from roughly 50% to 15-25%). This does not help with the problem you were likely trying to solve by playing longer time controls to begin with though (i.e. practicing for OTB).
2) Only play people you know personally, or titled players. This can almost eliminate the risk of having that problem, but will have the drawback of taking longer to find a game.
I just started on this site a few weeks ago and I think it's mostly cheating accounts. Ya there is a lot of good eggs, but I've already had 4 messages from chess.com saying that they found my opponent was cheating and adjusted my Elo accordingly. I'm pretty much done with it and headed back to over the board at my bookstore

4 out of over 250 is not a lot.
I hear the OP loud and clear. Worse than wasting 30-60 minutes on a rapid game is wasting 2-4 hours on a rapid tournament. Chess.com needs to dramatically increase the number of games played to enter a tournament. Besides the cheaters, I've been surprised how many people enter rating limits tournaments far below their strength because they've only played a handful of games and just haven't risen to their expected rating yet. It even happens in daily tournaments. It's an easy fix to stop people from having their time wasted. Just make them play more games before entering a tournament.
