What are the chess tournament rules for prescription medicine?

I don't have ADD but I take Ritalin as an antidepressant. It vastly improves my chess and helps e be more creative. I think that if you have a condition then prescription meds should be fine. Nobody is going to drug test you anyway.

Ritalin is one of the forbidden substances.
You can be drug tested.
You can obtain a Therapeutic Use Exemption.

Those are FIDE rules. Most tournaments in the USA are run under USCF rules instead of FIDE rules. As long as it's not FIDE rules, as @pdve stated, I don't think you'll be tested for drugs in the USA. And if it's prescription drugs, nobody is going to care.
If you're really paranoid about it, you could ask the tournament director.

Honestly, I'd be more worried about catching the COV*D, lol.

The above rule says:
"These Anti-Doping Rules shall apply to FIDE and to each of its National Federations. "
So it also applies to the USCF.
Here is the list on which Ritalin figures:

Here is the form to apply for a Therapeutic Use Exemption:

I take thyroid hormone and my mood and play improve when I take the medicine. Not sure yet whether this is correlation or causation.

As said you can apply for a Therapeutic Use Exemption. If you need it as a medicine, then you can, provided you submit the exemption form in advance.

It only applies to the USCF *IF* the USCF cares about it.
I haven't yet found anything on the USCF site about drugs or anti-doping policy. (If anyone can find it, let me know.) I would NEVER give FIDE any of my personal medical information - That's total insanity. (Can you say "data breach in the making?")
Where is the money for this drug testing going to come from? Not the USCF or the TD, that's for sure. If you're concerned about this, call up the USCF or the TD and ask them. I'd be shocked if anyone here in the states cares about this.

@SpacePodz, call the USCF and let us know what the response is...
Apparently, it's not a toll-free call, but if you have unlimited minutes...

From above rule:
"5.3.5 The overall costs of Testing and Sample analysis is the
responsibility of the organizing committee and/or the National
Federation of the country in which the Competition or Event is taking
place. FIDE may at its own discretion decide to take responsibility for
those costs."

I also think drug testing is completely ridiculous for chess. If there was actually a drug that improved your brain so that you played chess better, I would be in it 24/7, screw the chess tournaments. I’d rather be smart.

From the above link:
"The most relevant banned substances for chess are:
• Amphetamines – e.g. Adderall, Ritalin
• Ephedrine and Methylephedrine – Prohibited by WADA when its
concentration in urine is greater than 10 micrograms per milliliter
• Pseudoephedrine is prohibited when its concentration in urine is greater than
150 micrograms per milliliter
• Modafinil "

You're spouting idiotic FIDE rules. Nobody here in 'Merica cares, at least on the local level.

I don't know if this translates into better chess, but I'm convinced that the brain operates more efficiently when it runs on ketones instead of glucose (re: a ketogenic diet). And the neat thing about this is that it's all natural. My only caveat is that if you're diabetic, you need to work with a doctor regarding the diabetes meds. As you go on the diet, you'll probably have to cut back on the diabetes meds to prevent your blood glucose levels from getting dangerously low.

The question was: "What are the chess tournament rules for prescription medicine?" I gave the answer. If you want to take banned substances and hope you will not get caught then you should face the consequences. At lower levels there is far less testing.

Well, we thank you for your bookish answer...
