Turning off chat, while it hurts your pride to not combat, is the best way. Also, since patience is a staple of chess...well, that speaks for itself.

Right. So why don't you go to prison? You need a lot of patience there. Very productive too.
What an absurd argument people keep making. Just because patience is a virtue, it doesn't mean you should waste your time or let other people waste it with stunts like that. Patience is much better applied to something constructive, not just thumb twiddling.
i think chess.com must make harder laws about closing accounts ...

Patience is a virtue, but patience is also chess. Can you play a 4 hour game and not be patient?
Anyway, you are not wasting your time. There are easy ways to practice your chess even while sitting there "wasting your time" waiting for a move.
What can we do about rude and unethical persons that abuse opponent or let the timer running down when losing?!
