Your taxes still pay for the bullets that kill innocent people. Like it or not.
How about you tell me something I don't already know?
Sadly you're right - and that's precisely why I have the right to bang on about it.
Lot of good people in the US, same as everywhere else. We shouldn't judge people by their Govts. Given the number of Americans on food stamps I'd suggest they have the same opinion about their Govt as others have, as indeed most of us have about our own Govts.
Blair is also out of office, we did that. And I'm glad you recognise that the Chilcot Inquiry was a farce, because we made sure of that outcome as well.
you guys are so fun.
I 've written a dozen political, pointless non-sense posts back.
but I won't post ANY of them.
I spent all weekend ignoring this ignomious and useless place. and you not going to lure me into a violation of TOS on my next day back...
so what was cholcot inquiry anyways?
news of this did not make it over the atlantic.
is it all about the moron-idea of invading iraq?
ok. I looked. it kind of sounded like witch hunting. ie
blaming people when it all fell apart.
ofc when iraq was invaded it became pretty clear that "intelligence" was wrong....
so chilcot was spose to humiliate the guilty. and... it didn't.
#99 is all guesses.
I shouldn't have to say that. but you boys (some of you) seem pretty slow today.
as for witch hunting during a war.
thats a fine time to witch hunt, let me tell you.
nobody got time for (protestin') that!
The US is a teenager compared to the rest of the world. They have no culture, no real history as it is a relatively new country so it hates on other countries like Iran that are steeped in culture and have long standing traditions and values.
Plenty of culture and history here. The US is a melting pot so no one foreign culture reigns supreme.
But there are plenty of culturally American things here that belong solely to us. And most of our culture the world adopts, takes for granted, and/or is somewhat oblivious. Just look at music. The US invented rock and roll which then evolved into jazz, blues, and country. We also invented hip hop, house, techno, and many others. And a lot of our street style has come from music. We're just less traditionalist and formal about it.

All very predictable I'm afraid - but still interesting though.
The "Public Inquiry" is the favoured response of the British ruling class to issues which are "tricky" shall we say. They usually take a long time, just long enough for the dust to settle and the story to disappear off the media agenda, so Chilcot took a real long time to publish!
But these things are always interesting because as carefully managed as they might be, they always shine a light of some sort into the corridors of power, corridors which are normally shut off from public view, and Chilcot was no different in this respect.
I agree TR, good points. I think it's the lack of respect for others' culture that gets the limelight. The current furore about Islam seems to be too easily adopted by many Americans. That isn't restricted to the US though, it's a deliberate attempt to vilify and scapegoat, to create an enemy to distract attention by Western Govts using the corporate media.
Hence the fuss about hijabs. Normally nobody would care. I think we should worry about the important things like lunatics starting wars. These are fought not by the politicians who started them, but the many varied people who we meet on chess sites, ordinary people, who are then forced to fight each other. I'd wear a hijab rather than risk starting another war!! It's not an important issue.
.....and Govts try to divide us. Racism, xenophobia and religious differences being some of their favoured tools.
Hijab is good. Because it reduces the chance of attraction and rape. Moreover it enables people to be disguised, or to hide face expressions. Hijab is the flag of Muslim's allies. You are NOT welcome without Hijab.

Their argument is that forcing women to do something that men don't have to do is "morally wrong." Those that are protesting are basically protesting against the "law based on the religion itself." It's not about "disrespecting their beliefs at all." They think that this law is immoral and they disagree with it's very existence. It is likely that they see it the same way as women did in America when they did not have the right to vote or to join the armed forces.
Anyway no one talks about this because it always gets awkward but that's basically what it is. And trying to discuss topics like religion and morality tends to get threads locked so I don't think it's a good idea to get really specific about this stuff.
They do require a dress code though. And most of US customs and laws are founded in religious practices.
