What do the time settings on live chess mean?

I know what 30 min means but some say something like 15 then it has a line and then a 10 for instance what does that mean exactly?

It means that each player starts the game with 15 minutes on the clock and that 10 seconds are added to that time on every move. You can read all about it here:
