What do you feel about players that do perpetual checks when they are losing?

It sucks but its part of the game.  better to eliminate their options so the opporunity is not there.  if i'm going to lose better to take the .5

This is the game.  I should have just taken his pawn with my pawn instead of letting it advance to 7th rank.  He wouldn't have been able to take it with his queen because I would have checkmated him.  I was not into just running around the entire board getting checked so I basically just walked into the loss plus I was down on time by one minute and if he just kept checking me I would have eventually lost on time.

In fact, you missed a win late that I don't think anyone has noticed -- 37...c5 stops all the checks, and you're just winning.  Instead you walked into a mate in two.

It's a game between two 1100s.  Both sides will almost always miss a lot of chances.  Remember this, keep your mind open to your chances when you're worse and your opponent's when they are, and keep improving.

I really don't understand the original question.  It seems like you are making a joke on all of us.  At one point, you say that he only won "because of the rules of the game." I burst out laughing when I read that.  I'm almost sure you are joking.

But in case you are not joking, "cheap" play may include blowing cigarette smoke in your opponent's face, positioning the board so that he is facing a blinding sun, and otherwise distracting your opponent, but it does not include moving pieces on the board during your own clock time according to the rules of the game.

You see, chess is a two-person game in which you take turns moving pieces. When it is your turn your clock is ticking down. When it is not your turn, your clock is stopped.  Players continue to alternate moves until someone gets checkmated or stalemated, or until someone claims a draw by three-fold repetition or by the 50-move rule, or until a draw is offered and accepted, or until someone's time runs out. Following these rules during an online game, it is not possible to play "cheap" (but of course cheating is another issue). The rules are symmetrical (other than White going first) and thus fair: whatever rule applies to you applies to your opponent.

Blundering away a won position is very frustrating. But the fault is your own

SonnyMacheka

there should be a cut of point in which those useless check end, just for those who doesn't have sportmen spirit in themselves to submit and start a fresh game or games.

TheGrobe

There is one (two, actually):  After 3-fold repetition or the 50 move rule, simply claim the draw and start a new game.

TheGrobe

Or the player being checked could be sporting and agree to a draw before this....

MrL

it is valid move to do perpetual check.   If you cannot mate their king, it is draw.  Rules are rules.

Hardest thing to win is a won game.

If I were in the losing position, I'd be doing everything I could to find some way to get a draw, or even a win, out of the situation. Nothing cheap about it. 1/2 point is better than 0 points.

But for you, 1 point is better than half.

Yeah I agree, if you are cunning enough to upset a strategic set up by your opponent ..........even if it means perpetual checks  then.......is OK . You dont play to draw . Its  A WAR OUT THERE. 2 armies fighting each other kill or be killed.   its WARFARE .........remember that. The king and queen with their armies in battle .

SonnyMacheka

i jus hate it when someone is doing it to me but to be frank guys, I sometimes do it if there is no way out of a cornered situation, infact we need not complain about it because if there is nothing else, we all force for a draw so lets face it there is still no other conditions governing or refining a fair draw. a draw is a draw.

bobbyDK

perpetual checks is a result of a player fighting to get most points possible in a tournament.

but 1.e4 e5 draw is just making fun of chess.

Devil-sPawn

If your opponent puts you in perpetual check you are not winning the game, you may be ahead on material but you are still unable to mate and opponent gets his draw , well played to your opponent i say

Say you're beating someone and aren't that far away from a mate.  Say he somehow breaks through your defense with a queen and begins checking you all over the board.  What do you feel about this?  I was winning a game pretty handidly and my opponent sacrificed a pawn in order to give his queen open space to check me.  It was in a position in the board where I didn't have a shield for my king and so he could have checked me as many times as he wanted.  I think it's pretty cheap.

He played a positional sacrifice to draw the game.  If you really were winning you wouldn't have been where a draw could be forced, if you were winning then you carelessly allowed a forced draw.  One time I sacrificed a rook because I knew white had a forced mate so I may as well have tried a desperation tactic.  Then I forced a threefold.  Sometimes when you're otherwise lost you try things you wouldn't otherwise:

It was a blitz but I had to copy down the final position, too good to pass up.

The OP is like every other person of his ilk who complains about a rule when the rule works against them. Whether it’s the stalemate rule or perpetual check they whine, complain, and snivel about being cheated out of a win when due to their own ineptitude they can’t bring home the bacon. Furthermore they are the worst kind of hypocrites because when the rule works in their favor they will use it to their advantage to secure the draw. >:[

I went over the game that was posted earlier in the thread and see where your problem is.  You allow careless mistakes, maybe due to one's infamous blindspot (we all have them in fact some optical illusions depend on them)

MaryandJuana

that's not the game I was talking about

Shalle94

WalhallaRoad I sense troll. Or else, learn some chess!

Can you post the game that you're talking about...?
