I don't like unwarranted claims of sexism but this one was warranted. There was no reason to single out women. Many men and women know how the pieces move and how to checkmate but have little understanding of the game beyond that. But they do know how to play. If you ask me if I know how to play checkers, I will answer yes. I know how to play. I've never played enough to know or care about strategy. You seem to want advice on how to make someone feel small because she has the temerity to think she knows how to play the game when you get to decide if she has the requisite skill to think that. Ironic that you think such people are cocky.

You must be a woman I swear , I can feel some women logic of yours.
It's like me saying yeah I know how to drive a car I KNOW I KNOW , when in reality I've been sitting in the car on a passenger seat 5 times in my life.
And I'm not being sexist, like I said before out of 100 men and 100 women , men mostly respond something like I'm not good, or I've been playing it long time ago in school now I forgot something like that mens logic being straight forward.
Women logic is : if I say I don't know how to play chess they will think I'm not intelligent, so most of the time they being so confident, proud, loud voice, chin up, YES I know how to play chess ! Almost cocky as if you are insulting her by asking her this question
I'm not judging, but I speak from experience, just being observant that's all .

Some other 1000's examples , especially females saying yeah sure we know how to play .
Ok let me make this clear basically , why I said mostly females , because if men say we know how to play they will have at least some knowledge like rating 300+
When women says I know how to play chess she means I KNOW HOW THE PIECES MOVES.
Ok , so this thread is not about abuse or bringing someone down all I want to ask is:
What do you say to someone who says they know how to play chess, some sort of response that will let them know they actually don't , if you know what I mean.
Something in a short form , that will embarasse them or give them a clear idea better to say.
Just remember some people so cocky saying , that they know how to play it , when they actually only knows how the pieces moves or rating 200 maximum
