If there was a "best opening", why wouldn't every Grandmaster in the world be playing it?
People want results without working for them. They want gain without pain.
So a bizarre Cult of the Opening has sprung up on Chess.com. True believers insist that the main thing seperating them from the titled ranks (NM, IM, GM) is that the Masters have memorized more theory than the weaker players have.
Naturally, this is false. Memorization of move lists is one of the smallest and least important differences between weaker and stronger players.
