What Happens Exactly When You Get Muted?

I've only been muted once; I spammed @myteachersam until he muted me for 60 minutes. I just logged off and came back so I never really found out about the consequences.

So I was interested to know what symptoms of mutism were. Perhaps from someone more experienced.

I got muted for a week, so...

1. All your posts get deleted.

2. When you try to comment, it says “You are disabled from commenting with this account”

3. You can make a thread, but nobody will see it until you get un-muted.

4. You can’t even comment in live (it will say “You are not allowed to comment in this chat room”), but you can talk in Help & Support.

5. You cannot message anyone.

6. You cannot send trophies.

So yeah, it’s kind of sad.

Do your previous threads come back?

Yes. I wondered that at first.

Please no but it would be much appreciated if you could tell me what happens. Just so I know incase it happens to a fellow player like @postafi or something.

Man, I would rejoice if Postafi gets muted. Oh, on more thing. Everything on your bio gets deleted. If you want to say something, do what I did and keep changing your name to what you want to say. @tripledown did this when he got muted, but don’t put what he wrote.

He's on a 7 day mute at present for yet another attack on Chess.com moderators and policies. This is not "arbitrary" as he and you have claimed: he's ignored the explicit instructions of the moderator team.

Yes. I wondered that at first.

They come back because your threads are never actually deleted at all.  They just flip a property on your account in the database that makes you "invisible" to other users, which hides all your content temporarily, then they prevent you from making new posts or chatting.  When a mute is over, they flip it back on and all your content magically returns.  Deleting data outright is almost never done in the online world...too easy to really screw things up that way.

Imagine it like you are in a big crowd yelling profanities, and they just drop a soundproof plexiglass booth over you until you calm down...no deletions required.

Ah ok. Thanks for the explanation, great metaphor by the way.

Noice.

It means that you are in check and cannot legally get out of it. Just do be careful on a first date.

If I remember correctly, muted people used to still be able to chat in their echess games chat box and via the 'Fun' trophies', but a lot has changed since I worked here, so that may have changed now.
