What happens if chess got solved?

hey papa here - i agree with atoms. i gave up with the openings - computers solve open.  and smany humans are good. Fisher suggested random upset - maybe a good idea.

Were chess ever "solved," we'd all have a lot of idle time and publishers would lose a lot of book sales. Not likely though is it?

The same as now. I would know that there is someone out there that is 10 to the zillionth power better than me. Still won't matter when I'm playing my buddy over a beer though.

If we took the current best processor in the world, and duplicated it, and networked it with a bunch of copys of itself all working together until the entire surface of the earth was covered in computers trying to solve chess together, we could maybe get it done in a million years.

No. 10^z <> z (this is easily proved with a little knowledge of mathematics). Hence 10^zillion <> 1 zillion. Note that I do not need to be able to define one zillion. :)

Well, you should probably at least have to demonstrate that it's not zero (in which case 10^z = z).
