"You win on time"

What about untimed games?  I play untimed ALWAYS when I'm playing chess IRL.

I have heard of an old old man who went by the name of Jessie. Everyone called him Chess Jess. He wrote a yowza dissertation on the B+Kn+K vs K ending. I heard it was awesome. Anyway, they say he died OTB at his local chess club (wherever that was). Flag fell. Don't ask me what ending he was involved in when he ran outta pawns to promote.

I'm gonna google it now. They say he was quite an entertainer....and philosophical. Unkempt, small and skinny, and spoke w/ a heavy lisp.

A manager of an english football club? That would be Bill Shankly, legendary manager of Liverpool Football Club! Give him his full title, please!

I was board 2 at the 2014 IHSA chess tournament this year.  In the last round of the tournament my opponent just stopped playing and fell asleep.  He sleped for about 40 minutes and awoke when he only had a minute on the clock.  When he was asleep I just sat back and relaxed while the people around us were in disbelief,

I can see that if one player dies he will most likely lose on time.  What if both players die? Does the last one to die, having moved, win on time or is it a dead draw?

I vaguely remeber reading once that a dead player did win a tournament game.

If both players die, then 2 autopsies will determine WHO died 1st, and who lost on time.Wink  Who didn't die 1st, who is ON 1st.  How the hell do I know, that's what I'm asking you??  Asking me what?  What's on 2nd. I don't care about 2nd, I wanna know WHO'S on 1st?  That's what I'm trying to tell you, WHO'S on 1st.  I DON'T KNOW!!   3rd base.Yell

The player who does not die should immediately resign the game & graciously give points.  After all, they live to play again. Wink

Avatar of marcosite

No, winning is good!  But someone slumpimg down dead all over the board & causing a scene would have to be handled with grace.  It's never actually happened, has it?

Avatar of Debistro

If my opponent was someone I hated, I would celebrate if he died at the board. [/honesty] Remember we are all trying to "kill" one another over the chess board, isn't that right?

Well, what happens with the prize if a dead man (died in last round) wins a tournament? See, that is an interesting question.
