yeh i can wait for the day when the computer rules
What if a girl became World Chess Champion?

It will be a sad day when there is not a single chess player with the minimal skill necessary to beat a woman.

a computer will beat the game in 5-10 years computing every possible move to its final result
Impossible. The number of possible games is estimated at 1 followed by 120 zeros. That's games, not positions. I think a 7 piece endgame DB takes up over 4 terabytes. I doubt there is enough HD memory on the planet to store every possible position on a chess board even if a computer could calculate every possible game(which is impossible). It is said there are more possible positions on a chess board than electrons in the observable universe. Chess will never be "solved".

wut?
"girl" implies a minor, not an adult - and some folks wonder why there are not more women on this site.
Indeed. Notice I said "woman" in my post. :) ERA all the way! Peace....

People refer to adult females as "girls" all the time. Sometimes the term is used to imply a minor, other times not. Ever hear of "Girl's night out?"

Good point. I do take exception with "Dat bitch" though. :^)

Sure I've heard the expression "girl's night out". I've also heard "boy's night out". Both make sense in context since they harken back to the time of our youth when we mostly socialized with folks of the same gender.
Let me put it this way. If the thread title was "what if a boy became world chess champion". Would you assume they meant an adult male?
what if a guy became world champion
females don't have the equivalent of "guy", so "girl" can mean both "boy" or "guy".

"If the thread title was "what if a boy became world chess champion". Would you assume they meant an adult male?"
No, but that's "boy," not "girl."

Then chess playing boys all over the planet will have posters of her on their wall & daydream about her & what openings she's going to use in her next tournament. I know I would. Maybe.

I think a "Lady" champion would be great. It's all about the game to me and not what sex, color, or whatever. What gender was Deep Blue?

When I read this title, the idea of an adult female sounded quite natural to me, although if someone said they were talking about a child female, I wouldn't find that weird either. With "boy" I don't get the same effect. I'm not saying that's logical, that's just the way we have come to use the terms.
"Woman" on the other hand, generally will only refer to specifically adult females. But then again, even terms like "women" can refer to all females regardless of age. So even that's not clear cut.

What gender was Deep Blue?
Who knows; I'm not sure where you're supposed to look to figure that out :)

Hello? the point is what does it matter. Good chess is good chess and if they win then they must play good. It almost imply's that if a non-male wins then it's strange. Ladies run countries, companies, homes, why shouldn't they win? Are you saying they aren't smart enough? I think the point of the question wasn't the wording it was how much attention that would bring, no?
Even if she did garner more attention than normal, it would still amount to very little attention. I have a lot of customers from Norway, and I often mention Magnus Carlsen. Most of the Norwegians have heard of him, but, not once has his name led to an interesting conversation about chess. Not once :(
Chess enthusiasts are a small, devoted clan. I could be wrong, but I think it's destined to remain that way.
A devoted clan, yes! Small, not even close, we are just an ignored clan, dispite the attention chess gets throught the years
